Knock knock! Haha
One of my new girls (Helen) who go nuts if she’s enclosed in the run with the others so the solution was free range - for now. She’s a wild woman lol
Is this thread about baking for humans or chickens haha 😂 well I made buttermilk English muffins recently and they came out fantastic!!! Sourdoughy taste and soft and chewy. Almost melt in your mouth with a crispy outside and cornmeal bottom!!!!
I’m so sorry. I lost a hen recently and I think it was predisposed. She was almost 2 and always a little “off”. Others are fine. I cried too. Send hugs to your wife.
Thank you. I have oyster shells and will give to them tomorrow. Saw the feather fixer feed at tractor supply recently and will buy that too - why not. Right now they eat egg layer Flock Party and Purina grains and mealworms. Maybe I’ll get the same brand in starter. They are picky with their feed!!
Hi all- I just went to close up the coop and noticed one of my hens has a bare spot on her bottom. Feathers everywhere in coop and in the run . The fluffy down feathers and also some big ones that seem like they’d be tough to pull out. She shares the area with two others that she grew up with...
picked up a silver Wyandotte and a buff orp yesterday to add to my three original girls who are almost 2 yrs old. Lost one of my brahmas last week due to unknown cause- it was always a little off so maybe there was always something wrong with her. Sad. The Wyandotte has quickly become the...
Thanks for the reply!
I picked up a bundle of strapping at the lumber yard and I’m going to make a rectangular frame with roof then staple chick wire to it. One side a hatch and one side a small area with a solid roof Incase they wanna get out of the sun. Want to build it now but I just mowed...
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone has input on chicken tractors. I have 4 laying hens and need one where they can lay eggs in. Right now they have a coop inside a roofed run but outside the run I have sooo many ant hills in the grass. They would have a field day going at them and I need them...
Beats me! They sound well fed :) Maybe just boredom? Try more treats couple times a day, few lettuce scraps or whatnot. Worth a try for distraction sake . I feel like my girls have done this a few times, I thought maybe one crushed an egg then proceeded to eat it. Added more shavings to nesting...
Maybe try to collect them faster and make sure they have food and other things/treats to preoccupy themselves with. I’m not an expert but they could possibly need more calcium and protein in their diet If they are going at the eggs. Just thinking out loud here
Not sure about the runny yellow poop but it’s pretty common for the pasty butt I thing as a new chick especially if they were shipped. And yes def try the coconut oil ! Good luck :)
When one of mine had pasty butt I would clean her, then treat the vent with a little coconut oil on a qtip. Just thought it would be soothing for her . Seemed to work for me :)
Just thought I’d share a photo of what I just found in my coop while locking up the girls tonight. Huge egg, it’s heavy! Regular egg for size comparison. I’ve had double yolkers but this is much bigger and the weight of this thing is crazy! Pretty neat.:D:bun Have a good night all 🌛
