My first girl just got eggs stuck and backwards, no warning, vet said it was probably because of salpingitis but I won’t ever know for sure. She had a hysterectomy and is fine. Second girl had a bout that I caught very quickly, course of amoxicillin cleared it and she went into molt as it was...
I’ve had one or two girls with salpingitis. Was prescribed amoxicillin but if it reoccurs the only treatments are surgery or implants. She does look uncomfortable in your photos. It can cause eggs to get stuck and all kinds of things, you would really need an ultrasound to know what’s happening...
Have they had testing done? It’s not really contagious unless the core issue that caused it was contagious. Without treatment EYP can go downhill fast.
Actually the vet is correct. The implant shrinks down the oviduct and the risk of that is that eggs can get trapped. This was confirmed to me by multiple vets including one of the best avian vets in the world. It doesn’t necessarily mean the egg won’t be laid but it is a risk factor and best to...
I haven’t had issues with it myself but have seen others mention if the dose isn’t right it can cause issues with the shells. Ducks need a high dosage and it affects each bird differently.
I would try the suprelorin or consider salpingohysterectomy if you are having serious egg issues. But...
Just curious how you went with your duck @Aunt Angus
Sometimes they still need implants and Lupron even after hysterectomy so they don’t lay internally
@CrystaBub your duck didn’t need this?
Basically she has two eggs jammed up in the oviduct. They are saying it’s basically like a closed cervix, she cannot get them out and they are starting to deteriorate so she needs them out. It’s probably happened because of internal damage and they won’t know until they get in there if she will...
I could certainly be wrong but I have done a lot of research into aspergillosis, vet papers etc, because one of my ducks has had the issue as long as yours. I went to the vet and did blood test and X-ray. His lungs were clear. Most of the ducks with severely affected lungs seem to have the acute...
I’m just coming back to this thread. How is she? My ducks have done the head shake as well, one consistently has a long term issue. I’m curious how long it had gone on for your girl before you started the Oxine? My belief is this is chronic aspergillosis presenting as trachea obstruction.
So I have 4 ducks and 1 was diagnosed with giardia. Two have bad diarrhea. The vet prescribed metronidazole tablets (which I believe is banned in the US) for everyone. However I have one bird that is not handleable. So I got dimetronidazole powder. I was told it’s 1 teaspoon per 8 litres (2...
Is there any point in using active ingredients Levamisole Hydrochloride + Praziquantel to worm ducks? This is the most easily accessible formula in Australia.
He's doing okay, we are off antibiotics. His eye is swollen and he has no vision in it but I'm more hopeful than I was that he can continue to be a duck.
