Best offence is a good deFENCE, if the bobcat can't get your chickens he'll move on sooner.
You could walk your boxer around the coop to do her business too. We have five dogs and almost never have wildlife on the yard ( not all a good thing :()
Here's mine, I had stucco wire for a floor but I cut it out after two years because the manure was matting on it, it was a bad move to do that I killed a bunch of hens while moving it. I had to move it at night while they roosted.
My hens are in a tractor coop so we just drag it ahead one length every night.
For the last two winters I built a temporary coop in my garden from old garage door panels, then just added a bag of shavings every once in a while. In spring I take the whole coop down and shovelled the shavings into...
My dogs are all locked up at night, but I still haven't had any trouble with predators, I think it could be that the dog smell is too strong on my yard. Or if they get close before it's dark they get chased away.
Are you trying to sell the meat or eggs?
I call my eggs free range, but the hens are enclosed in a 8'x14' coop (in Canada, coldest winter since the 1930's).
Commercially for eggs anything without a cage is free range.
Just thought I'd post pictures of our two chicken coops. I've been building them "behind the gun" as in after they are needed.
The first is a 8'x12' tractor coop, it's heavy so we use our half ton to move it over our yard. I used stucco wire to cover the coop and a wrap of chicken wire around...
I'm on a Toshiba right now, its my work computer- Its okay
I have a '02 dell at home- everytime I use it I just want to pick it up and throw it out the window, then go buy a Mac. My wife was even the one who suggested buying one, she is into music, and wants the Garage band program.
I don't...
Did your Husband buy that for the coop, or was he just trying it out? Either way its a really good idea, now you can be proactive about keeping your coop safe. Electric wire is the way I would go too, but maybe your husband should get a camera that does video first, I would like to see what that...

Didn't I read somewhere that free range birds are more stressed then birds that are in a run? I don't think anyone from an animal rights group would say that though.
If it were up to "one group" on how you should take care of your chickens, they would all be dead. "one group" takes in...

He has already tried, thus the reason that the dish towel now hangs on the oven door rather than from the refrigerator door handle. No sense making things easier for him.
If he would just bring you a beer.......
Maybe you need to train him to use his resources for good.......
I feed my dogs organic meat, It is just as "a little extra", but they do get nicer coats and just look better eating the meat. Where I get the meat is I go hunting and all the trim I don't use goes to dog food, you don't get more organic then that. Fall is coming, you could take out an ad asking...
My wife has brought in 4 cats at different times, first one was a stray when we were house sitting for her grandparents (her grandma always feeds the strays too), then a Kitten she found on the side of the road that was thin and so passive, she gave her away, then a classmates cat that her...
I see very often that people are having trouble with their roosters at a certain age. I also see that some posters try to assert their dominance AFTER the rooster has turned on them.
My question is; would it work better to hold your rooster on its back while it is still young and hasn't turned...
We feed two of our dogs twice a day, except Saturdays. Boxer is mostly twice a day, but she is a finicky eater so if her dish is empty we fill it. I don't feed the horses but they get fed twice a day by my wife.
