Feeding your animals!

Chickens? Chickens? You should better ask when DON'T i feed them! If they keep eating at this rate they will mature to the size of emus.

Seriously, they get fed at 6 am, 10 am (greens), 5 pm, and 8 pm if they appear starving. Clean water 3x a day, but when I build my drip buckets, the water will be much cleaner.

Livestock gets fed at 6 am, 12 pm, 5 pm and 9 pm. No delays possible. We would have a riot on our hands. They start screaming and yelling about 59 seconds before the time.

I haven't had a problem yet. They do eat before me. I eat once a day. Thats at night when I get in from feeding everything.

Dogs eat in the morning~and glean anything else they can during the day, chickens eat in the evening~actually the chickens eat all day as they forage but they are fed grains in the evening and only enough they will clean up right then.

Sheep eat grass all day long. Cats eat in the morning and all day long if they choose to hunt.

I don't know about this thing with chickens not having enough time to digest if fed in the evening? Now, I've been around chickens nearly all my life and never once saw one that stopped digesting their foods at a certain time of day.

For the Horse & Donk - We feed twice a day - Morning feed is dropped between 7 & 7:30 and Evening feed is dropped between 6:30 & 7:00. If anyone is home they get extra hay in early afternoon. The horse usually starts rattling the back door knob about 6ish. Yes he literaly stands and baps his lips on the door knob - the teeth marks on it are aweful also.

The Chickens - freerange - always eating.

Cats - Have dry food down all the time - get can food in the early morning - between 6 & 7.

Dogs - Have can food - they get feed when I do - usually breakfast about 8 - and dinner about 7.

I fill my feeders and change the waters out each evening. The only livestock I have right now is 19 chickens though.

For my horses, I feed them Purina Omolene #100.
I feed them twice a day, at 8:00am and 6:00pm.
For hay:
In the morning after I have fed them, I put out 5 of those little square bales in their pasture.
And then they each get one when I bring them in for the evening feed.

And for the chickens,
I just fill their feeder to the top and make sure they have clean water.

Most of my animals have food available 24/7 so it's not really important when they get fed. When I have some free time during the day I top off all the chicken feeders, rabbit hay, switch out the parakeet seed, and check the dog bowls as well as water for everyone. If it's really hot out I check things 2 or 3 times a day just incase. In winter my horses and chickens get black oil sunflower seeds. Generally afternoon for the chickens and evening for the horses when they are brought in to the stalls. The sugar gliders are the exception. They need only fresh foods daily and they are nocturnal so they get fed in the evening and the leftovers removed in the morning.

We feed two of our dogs twice a day, except Saturdays. Boxer is mostly twice a day, but she is a finicky eater so if her dish is empty we fill it. I don't feed the horses but they get fed twice a day by my wife.

My chickens have feed 24/7. Horses are fed in the morning and evening, puppies get cookies in the morning, their main meal in the evening. I would never leave an animal without feed until the evening.
