    falcon

I may live in the city now, but I was raised out in the woods. I am more versed in wildlife than most and paint and sketch wildlife, several subjects that are part of the falco family. It is without doubt a falcon. It was not around yesterday evening for a photo op, which is a good thing. But I...

    falcon

Not sure on breed, but it is a larger falcon and definitely a falcon. I did an internet search, but nothing was obvious. I will try to get a better look if he is still around this evening.

Morning. I have a flock of five(5) hens of assorted breeds that are 13 - 14 weeks old. I have no rooster due to city ordinance. they are in a secure coop except for when I let them out for some supervised free ranging. Yesterday, I noticed a large falcon in the area. The longer the day went on...

Chickens and Wild Mushrooms- Be careful!

Most game cameras have infrared capabilities now (sans flash) and the prices are not as bad as they were ten years ago. But if nothing else you could at least put up a dummy surveillance camera that has a red light on it as a possible deterrent. I would also contact the local law enforcement...

    sick pullet?

I have an 8 week old mixed breed pullet that for the last couple of days has been shyed away from the rest of the flock. Today she is a little more active but has watery eyes and a small amount of clear fluid draining from one nostril. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Chickens and Wild Mushrooms- Be careful!

Sorry to hear about your troubles. You could put up a surveillance or game cam and maybe catch or deter future issues.

    Pipe feeder

So far there has not been. There is a fee crumbs on the ground around it, but not close to what the standard store bought feeders allow.

    wing clipping

I mean cutting. There will be no surgery. All free-ranging will be supervised as I live in an area where various hawks, falcons and occasional golden eagles nest.

    wing clipping

Morning. I have an 8 week old flock of various breeds. At what age should their wings be clipped and should I clip one or both wings? When we raised chickens when I was a kid, we clipped one and never had any issues, but I have recently started keeping chickens again and have received advice...

Hello all. I am wondering if anybody has any ideas on the sex and breeds of my 3-4 week old chicks. I received them at while taking a class at a local Ag Extension class and was told the eggs were gathered from several local contributors and some are likely mixed-bred. Any thoughts would be...
