    Bumble foot & bugs (Lice?)

Long story short, we rescued two chickens, Harper & Blake, back in late 2019. When we got them they were malnourished, has bumble foot to the point they couldn't walk, had lice, had mites, beaks clipped too short, and pneumonia. We treated with ivermectin, metacam, antibiotics (clavamox? if i...

Chicken laying eggs covered in blood and having bloody discharge. Loss of appetite.

No prolapsed vent as far as I can tell. She had xrays done for her surgery several weeks ago which is how we found out she ate a screw. Her new xrays didn't show the screw so she must have passed it at some point in the past few weeks.

Chicken laying eggs covered in blood and having bloody discharge. Loss of appetite.

Our chicken Logan is almost 2 years old, we got home from work yesterday and saw her bum was plucked and covered in blood. She had laid an egg with a little blood on it the morning before, that day she layed a very bloody egg, and another slightly bloody egg today. We took her to the vet last...

Introducing two hens - how to make them friends

Thank you for the advice, the reason they sleep in the house is because the run is not 100% predator proof but the coop is. We don't feel comfortable keeping them both in the coop together overnight and unsupervised. As embarrassing as it is, I just can't pick one to sleep in the coop and one in...

Introducing two hens - how to make them friends

Thank you for the advice, that helps a lot. I think i'm just feeling discouraged! But they were hanging out by each other through the fence today, so that's good!

Introducing two hens - how to make them friends

That's kind of what I feared as a worst case scenario. Ultimately if they hate each other we'll just have to build a second coop w/ run or they'll continue to sleep in the house at night. They both have a home here, so we'll make it work, I just want so badly for them to enjoy one another! I...

Introducing two hens - how to make them friends

Hey there, This is a bit of an odd post, I know my partner and I are a bit abnormal when it comes to our pet chickens, but we would really appreciate some advice. We recently lost one of our two girls, Stella, had to be euthanized due to old age and multiple health complications decreasing her...

New Chicken enlarged chest mass, skin growth, deep puncture wound, twisted toes

Vet helped us flush and drain the wounds, started her on antibiotics (which she has now finished) and said she should be better in no time! The vet thought she was so sweet they actually waived the fee for the exam! She seems better already, boy has she gotten loud! :)

New Chicken enlarged chest mass, skin growth, deep puncture wound, twisted toes

We are in Canada, the previous guardian for this hen said she watched the other chickens pin her down and rip her feathers out repeatedly, so I think the feather loss is all from bullying.

New Chicken enlarged chest mass, skin growth, deep puncture wound, twisted toes

Thank you so much for the info, I'm so relieved! The stick thing is above her tail feathers, probably 1-2 inches above, and our other chicken doesn't have one. She seems quite irritated by it as she picks at it a lot. What is it for/what is it called? Do all chickens have this?

New Chicken enlarged chest mass, skin growth, deep puncture wound, twisted toes

Is her crop normal in proportion to her body? It's quite hard and I'm unsure if its impacted or just because she's so scrawny looking that it seems off. Should I be concerned in regards to not being able to get into a vet till morning? Are any of these issues time sensitive? She was SO...

New Chicken enlarged chest mass, skin growth, deep puncture wound, twisted toes

Hello, We just picked up a new chicken tonight, we got her as she was being bullied by her flock, the other chickens wouldn't let her roost or eat and were pinning her down to pull her feathers out. She's just over a year old, hy-line chicken. When we saw her we immediately agreed to take her...
