I should also mention that she came from a hatchery that said they were immunized for coccidiosis.
Should I pick up some corrid? I’ll work on giving her a wash. Should be an adventure.
My BO has bloody feathers around her vent this morning and I found a single bloody poo in the coop. She’s behaving fine and her poos now look completely normal. She’s not laying yet, but should be getting close. I’m not sure what to do. Could it be coccidiosis with just one bloody poo or is it...
Looks like I have some flock logistics to figure out. Time to juggle some things. Thank you all for your wisdom and know-how. I’ll keep you updated. :fl
She’s on her own, but she’s only (I believe) two weeks younger than my other three. I’m pretty sure my barred rock is a cockerel, and really bullies her. Am I just being an overly defensive scaredy-cat and need to let them sort it out?
I will definitely try that. Thank you!
As far as putting her with the others, how much bullying is too much bullying? My barred rock and RIR are particularly aggressive toward her.
Thanks, you two! As long as it isn’t bothering her I’ll just keep watching it and hope it starts to shrink soon. I worry over her a lot. Integration isn’t going so well....
Here’s what her beak looked like the day she arrived:
Two weeks ago I received this little buff Orpington from Mcmurray. She’s currently divided from the other chicks by hardwire cloth and allowed to mingle with them when I’m out to supervise. I noticed last week her nose seemed to be bleeding slightly and assumed it was from her sticking her beak...
Thank you! I’m glad I have two sets of feeders/waterers. Will she need to be quarantined if she’s coming from Mcmurray hatchery? They’re immunized right?
Hey y’all. I have three 5 or 6 week old chicks. It’s very possible that two might be roos. I honestly hope not. If that is the case, I don’t want my flock to be down to one, so I ordered a buff Orpington started chick from Mcmurray that will arrive later this week. How do I handle adding her to...
I love when they are super friendly! Makes it extra fun interacting. My silkie is that way now.
I’m pretty darn sure she’s a RIR. And it’s quite possible that she’s not a she after all. Time will tell. That’d be a possible two out of three in the rooster department. *sigh*
Hello all! Brand new chicken keeper here! Three years ago we bought a 1/2 acre fixer upper and I knew I wanted to raise chickens here. I finally made that happen recently! Bless my husbands heart, he loves me more than he hates chickens.
We have three (hopefully...that barred rock though...)...
Hello BYCers. Very new here! And new to keeping chickens, so you might be seeing lots of me.
Two and a half weeks ago we picked up three chicks from our local IFA. One was supposed to be a buff Orpington, but as she’s growing feathers she’s very mottled and I’m wondering if she might be a...
