It is raised, and maybe a bit larger than the size of a quarter. We also don’t have a rooster but I’ve caught one of the hens trying to get on top her before. I’m thinking it could be a bump/wound the hens noticed and started picking at?
That’s good to know, I’ll try applying that. No, we don’t have a rooster, but I’ve caught it maybe 2 or 3 times in the past where it seems like another hen tries to get on top her. It is a raised bump though, maybe the cream will help?
Hi everyone, My chicken has developed a large bump on her wing. It started back in the winter when they were confined to the coop/run but since about March, they’ve been free range all day every day. My other chickens do tend to bully her a bit so I thought maybe it started when they were...
This is very helpful. It’s just odd because I have plenty of oyster shell available and I just rarely see her eat it, and she’s still dropping soft eggs. I hope it’s because she’s still maturing! I’ll try offering some additional calcium to her. Thanks!
Even if one is about a month and a half-ish from laying? I’m less concerned for the other 2 because they’re already growing their mature features but the other hasn’t started
Hi! We have 4 chickens and one of them just started laying almost 2 weeks ago (yay!). All 4 chickens are 17 weeks old right now. Right after we got our first egg, she laid 2 more normal eggs, then 3 shell-less eggs. I switched completely to layer food and offered crushed oyster shell after the...
Hi everyone!
(1)Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am completely new to owning chickens! My parents and grandparents all grew up owning chickens, but for me this is a total first!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
4 sweet ladies
(3) What breeds do you...
Update!! So the chickens finally learned to get up the ramp into their coop all on their own so they have been getting adjusted for the night (still right on top of one another) and then falling asleep. It’s been about maybe 5 mins of where I can hear them moving around and chirping but way...
Yeah I can see that being the case. The coop does have a window on the opposite side of that open door (can’t see it in the picture), and I’ve left it open hoping that would let more light in but it hasn’t helped. I can try a night light though! I think once they learn how to go in on their own...
Hi there,
We recently got 4 chicks who are now 6.5 weeks old. At about 4 weeks, we moved them into their permanent coop full time but kept their heat lamp on as it was still too cold during the day/night. At 5 weeks we started letting them out into the run while we're at work and bringing them...
