Help please! Cochin pale and not laying

Thanks so much for all the info!! When I brought her inside that’s when I gave her the ACV, from what I read about being egg bound it wouldn’t hurt trying that. I’ll be sure not to give them it in the heat though, thank you. I’m really hoping she’s just broody.. but man for a minute there she...

Help please! Cochin pale and not laying

Okay so I’ve done a lot of research and it seems to be that my 6-7mo old bantam Cochin is possibly eggbound. She hasn’t laid an egg in about 4 days, and the last egg she laid was colorless. Her comb and waddle are pale pink, and yesterday my husband and I saw them turn ghostly white. So much so...

Not quite a rubber egg, but a shell-less egg

So I’m sitting outside with my girls, I’ve already retrieved three eggs today, one from each hen. And then I go to stand up and I noticed that there’s a weird alien looking egg by my chair. I went to pick it up of course and the girls just go bonkers. Now I’m on a wild chicken chase around my...

    Just built a run!

Well I keep a camera on them 24/7, and I've never seen any type of predator come up - day or night. The crows are the biggest birds I see around, and they just stare at the chickens from the roof or fence posts. Once and a while we will have a cat walk through the yard, smell the ground and keep...

    Just built a run!

So, on kind of a whim, I decided to build a run for my flock. We only have 3 hens, and one is a Bantam Cochin. I bought a "large" coop (according to the manufacturer, HA!) for them and then it wasn't enough space, then I bought a 10x5x6 dog run for them and I felt like that still wasn't enough...

    Sunning chickens

My Cochin will do this too, and we live in central FL where it's easily 95. I did stop her from doing it because the UV index was 11+ and her feathers were hot to the touch. Just scooted her to the shade. She only does it when it's super hot out! I don't get it.

    Chickens eating paper!

Thanks, that's what I was thinking but I wasn't sure! And of course they're not going to have access to the paper one anymore.

    Chickens eating paper!

Hello all! I'm still new to chicken raising so I'm a bit of a helicopter mom still... So I have outdoor cameras at my house and of course I positioned one to where I can see my chickens all day (I know, I know). I just looked because my alerts were going off.. and my Barred Rocks are pecking at...

    Are yard birds predators?

Thanks everyone, I appreciate all the info!

    Are yard birds predators?

So I live in central Florida and we have tons of birds. Crows, pigeons, several types of ocean birds, probably 10 different types overall that come around? Well, today I look outside and there are birds clinging to the chicken run looking inside like they’re trying to get in! There’s food around...

    First egg!

The person who I adopted my chicken children from said they’re all about 4 months old, that was two weeks ago. It’s safe to say they are roughly 4-5 months now. Little back story... I got two Barred Rocks (the “twins”), and then got the sister who is a bantam Cochin a week later. They grew up...

    Getting attacked

Oh yes I realize that!! It’s so sad because she’s so freaking sweet and innocent and loves us already. Of course we love her more than we thought we could ever love a bird. Thanks for the advice, that may be best

    Getting attacked

I’m not too sure about that, it sounds great in theory but if you saw the way they hated her even in open yard space it might not be the best idea. Thank you, if nothing else has worked and it comes down to it, I will try. I worked with them all day yesterday and as soon as they see her in the...

    Getting attacked

I got a chicken coop with the intention of getting a chicken. It turns out we have three now, so it’s not ideal. They have a 5 foot long enclosed coop (run portion, nesting box overhangs) inside of a 10Lx5Wx6H run, they’re not all crammed inside the 5 foot coop... you’re seeing it from the...
