I have one chicken who will disappear lay eggs and hatch out chicks. She reappears with them I put several stakes in a 2 foot circle only a couple inches between each stake put your chick feed in the center. Chicks can go in and out but not older free range hens. Cuts down on feed. Don't worry...
I have bantams and heavy breeds together without problems. I have even added new bantams with out any problems. I dont think my hens in charge view the bantams as a threat to the pecking order.
Im sure it would be good but probably $$$$$$$. I just go to local flooring companys and get remnants. Did my 8x8 coop for $10 got a 10x10 piece so I could go up each wall a few inches works great and cheep cheep! (Sorry couldnt resist!)!
I dont deal well with aggresive roosters, I give one chance and only one chance. If the rooster is or acts aggressive, do you really want those genes passed onto the next generations?
Chicken Math! I just started raising chickens last year. Built my coop twice as big as I needed, so I thought. Ive already put in my order for chicks from our local feed store to fill my coop. Only warning to you is that chickens are addictive!!!!!!!!!!!! (Just like a bag of patato chips once...
I have no Idea about bsl, But I do have 2 barred rocks and a buff orp. All three are very docile and good layers of good sized eggs. My buff orp lays the biggest eggs I get, and I think she likes being pet by my kids. Our other chickens are used to it and dont mind, but she will seek attention...
My rooster got one chance and only one he went after my 7 year olds face that was the end for him. I agree with alot of peoples posts I have seen In other threads if a rooster is agressive do you really want those genes passed on to future generations of chicks? We are going to try again this...

Its amazing to me how much personality some chickens have! I have a very mixed flock of 12 hens. I added two new bantams to my flock of ten, two weeks ago. I have two barred rocks who seem to share leadership? They have the control or the highest pecking order. I was worried to add chickens as...
I have 5 bantams and 7 regular or large breed chickens they all seem to do fine with each other. They were not all raised together. 2 of my bantams were just added to my flock 2 weeks ago and they were combined without any issues or problems. I say raise both and have the best of both worlds...

I have 10 chickens and four nesting boxes. When I built my coop I looked up and read to see what size nesting boxes should be. Because of a building error my last nesing box is 2 inches smaller than the other 3 boxes. Go figure probably 90 percent of my eggs are found in this box! Dont know if...
Try putting a light on a timer to trick them into summer mode? I have 10 chickens with 7 eggs a day average and it was a high of 14 deg today! My 30 watt bulb is on a timer that comes on from 4am to 8am. I got a few extra timers this year after christmas they were cheap, Christmas light timers...
