Blue Andalusian or Feed Store Special?

she absolutely won't stay still! I'll try tonight when she's roosting, but it looks like a single comb. it just now (at 9 weeks) has gotten slightly bigger, so I'm hoping the late appearance means she's a girl and not a roo.

Blue Andalusian or Feed Store Special?

This is Duck, and she's 9 weeks old and being raised by one of my Easter Eggers. Feed store said she was a blue andalusian, but they also said my EE were cuckoo marans, so...any thoughts?

    Moving Mama and baby?

One of my hens is the happy mama of a 3 day old chick. She and the baby are in one of my nesting boxes in our coop (they have access to food and drink) but mama hasn't left the nesting box since the baby hatched on Friday. At some point should i move them, or trust that mama will get up and out...

36 week Americaunas not laying yet?

My run is about 6 feet by 15 feet--there aren't a lot of places they could be laying. They don't free-range because my neighbors have dogs and they have already killed one chicken. I'm going to do a butt check tomorrow, and see if they look like they cold be laying. I do think they are pure...

36 week Americaunas not laying yet?

I got two approximately 12 week old Americauna pullets in Mid-may, and they are still not laying yet. They are healthy otherwise, though way more skittish than my barred rocks. Could this be because they matured when the light was waning? I've checked the run and there are no stashes of hidden eggs.

    What's wrong with my hen?

My 18 month old Rhodie started acting odd a few days ago. It's been hot and I thought she was molting (hasn't laid all summer, lost a lot of feathers). However, she is extremely lethargic, her comb is pale, and she hasn't moved out of a dark corner of the run all day. I didn't feel an egg when I...

    Chickens stopped laying

Hi, I recently added two 12 week Americaunas to my already tiny flock (one year old Barred Rock, one year old Rhodie) about a month after my dog killed our year old black sexlink. The babies and the bigs were quarantined for almost three weeks, then we started putting them into the coop...

    Hi from the PNW

Hi! I'm a mostly new-to-chickens person in the Pacific Northwest with a little urban homestead (4 chickens, a lot of vegetables, a tribe of cats/dogs/human kids). Despite coming from an agricultural family, since my parents were suburb-ites I am learning all of this from scratch.
