Cubalaya Thread For Sharing Pics and Discussing Our Birds

I think it can be pretty automatic to think of a small wattled, dark, long tailed bird as being sumatra like. We're used to seeing a black sumatra, not a black cubalaya. If he did have sumatra in him he would have to be generations away from that breeding. He doesn't have the Sumatra chest, the...

Incredible longevity in that hen. I hope she's passed that down the line.

Cubalaya Thread For Sharing Pics and Discussing Our Birds

He is a very handsome fellow. I'm ecstatic to see so many beautiful cubalayas here. The blacks and whites definitely have a special place in my heart. He has that very eye catching beetle green sheen to his feathers. I'd love to see more pictures of your blacks.

Why does the egg I’m incubating have this weird blood circle?

I've hatched cracked eggs before successfully. I lightly brushed soy wax over the cracks before I popped them into the incubator. I have personally never had a blood ringed egg turn into a viable chick. I've left them another week to check development and they always stayed the same. "A blood...

Urgent! Gapeworms and Fluid in Lungs!

I'm really sorry that happened. I always recommend to squeeze liquid medications/supplements/etc on a piece of bread and pop it into the bird's beak so the liquid doesn't accidentally go down the wrong pipe. I hope that helps in the future.

Fluid coming out of the beak?

Has she been able to pass stool? She should be kept somewhere away from the other birds for observation. I'd say she probably has impacted crop but she could also be blocked up from worms. There are many threads regarding these conditions. People have massaged the crops with great success and...

Tree sap gathering and syrup making

I had no idea that large leaved maples could be tapped! I knew birch trees could, I just assumed that large leaved maples had too low of a sugar content for some reason. Thank you!

    Interested in getting bee's

An important note: some states won't allow bees from other states to ship to them. Mine (WA) just so happens to be one of those states, so I found local resources for nucs. Two of the least aggressive and best novice bee types are Italians and Carniolan Bees. Some nucs offer Italian stock with a...

    Interested in getting bee's

Yes, hopefully it will be useful info to people who want to get started! I have wanted bees for years do I've asked a lot of questions and spent countless hours reading. I feel like I'm ready this year and I'm very excited to get started. Hopefully this thread can cut down on all of that...

    Interested in getting bee's

I'm sorry for blowing up your post but I also wanted to add that as far as expenses go you can expect to pay $500 for your hive (sometimes you can find a deal on hives you build yourself and they come with other bee keeping equipment- that's what I did), around $30 for gloves and a smoker...

    Interested in getting bee's

Hi! I just wanted to add that I'm getting into bees this year and I have my hive all set up and a deposit on an Italian nuc. It would be fun to start my journey with others who are also starting out on theirs so we can share what we've learned together. I know a lot of bee keepers who take their...

4 month old ISA brown wont stand or walk - PICS INCLUDED

Hi, I realize that this is an old thread but I wanted to add to it just in case anyone happens across it as I did. Sometimes it's a deficiency of vitamins and nutridrench can help but it can take a while to work. Another thought that I had is she could have sustained an injury from another...

Bad case of pasty butt in baby chick, wont eat or drink and falling over cant walk much.

Pasty butt does tend to reoccur and if it manages to clear out the backed up feces they may be wet and stick to the rump again. I've used cuticle scissors to remove the vent fluff. A friend of mine pulls the vent fluff and I don't have the heart to just pull it. Cracker crumbs added to the feed...

    White Yokohama?

Hi there! I realize that this is an old thread, but I wanted to share a couple of things just in case anyone else runs into this thread like I did! Yokohama are very rare indeed and it's very difficult to find breeders out there who take these on as a serious project. They're way more popular in...
