So we feed then some flock crumbler in the morning and evenings with some meal worms. They free range on the lake we live on during the day so not sure what all they get into during the day.
I was cracking eggs this morning and they seemed paler than usual. I cooked them and thought they had a funny smell. So I threw them out and cracked some more. Some of them had a greenish tint to the casing around the egg yolk. They didn't smell when they were raw. Any idea what caused it? All...
Well we got only one duck sitting on the nest and we're feeling really good about the adoption but came out yesterday to a big black snake in the coop. He has eaten the fake eggs. Feeling like hope is lost on getting her to sit again on the new fake ones that come in today (we tried putting some...
Hi
We had four ducks. One being a drake. The drake and one of ducks went missing early spring. We ordered some more baby ducks that will be here in a couple of weeks. We have two ducks that are now broody on one nest with ceramic eggs inside. They've always only made one nest in the coop (not...
So if anyone is still following here is the update. It's now mid august and we are still struggling. We have tried everything we can think of but he still wants to attack ophelia. If it's up to him he wont let her either in or out of the coop or eat or have water. Right now we have a large pen...
Well I tried letting the drake out with ophelia (the one he is being mean to) so far he has just sat outside the coop where the other two ladies are locked up crying. Ophelia is just playing in the lake nearby. This plan doesnt seem like it's going to work.
One thing that seems so odd is that he doesnt seem super sexually aggressive. I dont see him mounting them a ton. He just chases and attacks this one girly all of the sudden. He sometimes does it to another one but not enough to scare her off or hurt her like he does this one. He never does it...
Do you think letting him out with a different female each day (leaving the other two together in the coop) would work. Everyone then gets a turn and a break from him? But then their break from him isn't out on the lake. Really the only one that seems to need a break is the one though.
Another part of the problem is I cant see what goes on all day when I let them out since they travel out on the lake. If I tried to let him out with just the one female I'm worried I wouldnt know how much abuse she was taking while they were gone.
I will definitely let you all know. Do you think I should keep him separated in the coop too? Will he attack them when they come back in at night if hes been in jail all day?
Hi! We have four ducks (silver appleyards). One drake and his three lady friends. They were born last May and these are our first ducks so we are definitely novices. For background we have a coop they stay in at night. I let them out each morning and they go out to play on the lake. They come...
