I think this adult hen has pox, what do do?

Thank you! Any idea how long it might take for her to recover, or what stage she's at? I've read anywhere from 2-5 weeks.

I think this adult hen has pox, what do do?

I live in Hawaii where we have a huge population of feral chickens. I am raising a flock of mostly silkies, along with two adopted feral chickens from the jungle. The two feral chickens have not had any vaccinations, but I want to look into that because this has me very worried. One of them...

    Chicken Pox Chick?

Are we sure this is fowl pox? I am astonished at this little guy's will to live, but I am also losing hope because this warty stuff just won't stop. Since my first post it's grown so fast and there is definitely some in his mouth because he can't fully close it anymore. As suggested I've...

    Chicken Pox Chick?

I attached a video of the weird breathing issue: Any other suggestions/ideas?

    Chicken Pox Chick?

I have applied iodine, the chick absolutely hates it. It's very difficult not to get it in his eyes, because the growths are mostly around that area. I haven't been able to easily open his mouth, but I'm afraid I do see some of the warty growths in there as well. He seems to sometimes breathe...

    Chicken Pox Chick?

I did try this morning, but it's really hard because of all the bumps and I don't currently have anyone here to help me hold his head still. I will go get some iodine today and try that!

    Chicken Pox Chick?

Good luck with your quail, but this is is the wrong thread to be posting in. Please make a separate thread, I am still trying to get help about my own situation here. Update: I gave the chick a bath and applied some Benadryl carefully around the affected areas. This morning he is eating well...

    Chicken Pox Chick?

Hi all, I moved to Hawaii recently where we have tons of feral chickens hanging around. We have one hen who had 11 chicks when I arrived, who all died one way or another (some I tried to rescue when I saw them looking sickly but they died almost immediately). She has one chick left who is now...

    Tracking Chickens via GPS?

I did some searching and haven't seen anyone talking about this, so I suspect it's a rather unusual thing to try... A little background: All our hens are free-range in our large, fenced yard. I have a single Modern Game hen, a rescue I added to my flock of mostly larger hens. Despite all of...

    Strangely Smart Chicken?

I recently added a new member to the flock, a gorgeous little Blue Lemon Modern Game hen. (Her name is Laverne.) Until now we have only had rather large and beach-ball shaped chickens (Mostly Orpingtons) and I have never owned a Game Hen and the contrast is quite extreme. I know the bar is...

Advice for injured silkie who narrowly survived hawk attack

I'm very sad to report she had to be put down. :hitThanks for all the suggestions/support. She was still trying (and failing) to lift her head in the morning, and so I took her to the nearest Avian Hospital to get a professional opinion. The vet said she was showing signs of severe...

Advice for injured silkie who narrowly survived hawk attack

She seems to only want her neck to go one way, and sometimes will struggle around and her head falls limply back, against her back. It's very distressing to see. Is it possible her neck is broken? Could she have survived this long? (about 3 hours?) Edit: I've read after some Googling that she...

Advice for injured silkie who narrowly survived hawk attack

Hey all, as the title says, I just came in from immediately rescuing my silkie when a hawk swooped down on her. I didn't see how it attacked her, just heard the screams and ran out to chase it away. She is in shock and was bleeding a lot from one wing (I put stiptic powder and that seems to...

    Where are all my eggs?

Well, the chickens came with the new house, and as far as I know they've been consistently laying eggs here their entire lives. I suspect they might be laying less because of seasonal change, or perhaps lack of quality water because our two ducks keep making it super muddy.

    Where are all my eggs?

Thank you! They are indeed molting- some of them are much more patchy-looking than others. I'll make sure to give them a lot more protein!

    Where are all my eggs?

Ah, I see! I don't know how old my chickens are, but they are all definitely older than a year. I didn't even know they quit laying at certain times of year, but that makes sense! I'm based in North Carolina where it's been pretty consistently hot.

    Water both ducks and chickens?

Newbie here! I have two elderly ducks who love to make a mess in any way they can manage, including turning the water in their coop into a muddy slurry. I wish there was a way to provide water for all the birds without the two ducks ruining it for everyone. Any tips or tricks to recommend?

    Where are all my eggs?

I am very new to chickens and recently inherited 7 chickens and 2 ducks with no prior experience, so hopefully this isn't a really dumb question. We used to get several eggs a day from our birds, but the past week or so we've hardly had even one a day. I don't think it's a predator getting in...

    Weird stuff on eggs?
