This is my first time raising chickens so I think I’m just a bit nervous that I’m not doing it right. I know it seems silly but I’ve always admired farming but I never thought I was qualified to do it. Until one day I decided to try. So as a 100 % beginner I just want to make sure I’m doing it...
I know that this may sound like a lily question but my chickens just started laying this week.
I know you don’t have to wash them because it washes the bloom off and they have to be put in the fridge immediately but for now I’m washing them and putting them in the fridge. I was just wondering...
“Good luck and have fun” I love that haha! Thank you and I most certainly will. Though I’m so impatient for those first eggs I am totally having a lot of fun! Even more so because now she is my mystery hen! So we shall see!
Wow so many genetic possibilities! So I guess it could be possible! Now I can’t wait for her first egg!! Haha this is going to be a surprise either way! Makes that first egg even more exciting because it’s a mystery! Haha
I tried to google other barred olive eggers and I only found one other person with similar looking hens that were olive eggers. So maybe there is hope! We will see
yes! I love her personality! She is friendly but also dominant yet not aggressive! She is not timid and she is quite quirky! And she is the smartest of the flock. So I truly love my Piper regardless of what she ends up being haha
It just struck me yesterday as I’m becoming more familiar with breeds. I was like wait a second she looks awfully similar to a barred rock. I guess no green eggs from her lol
I have a black copper maran. I’m hoping that’s the case! That she just happened to look similar to a barred rock. I love her anyway! But I was just really hoping for some olive eggs. I can see how it would be a chancing it though like you said.
I’m hoping she just took on the feather pattern. But I’m not fluent in chicken genetics and this is also my first flock. I guess time will tell but I’m really hoping for green!
Yes he had barred rock chicks available in the same hatch lol
But then I was wondering if he used a barred rock hen/roo to create an olive egger chick and it took on the feather pattern of one parent. ♀️
A few months ago we picked up 2 olive egger chicks and one maran chick.
But now as I’m looking at one of our olive egger chicks I’m seeing she looks like a barred rock. She hasn’t started laying yet so I don’t know. But I was really hoping for olive eggs.
Is it possible for her to look like a...
Thank you so so much!!! What’s if it’s not coccidosis and I use this treatment? Will it kill them?
They don’t look sickly. They are still running around and eating and everything.
