Unfortunately he hasn't improved, and it's been two months since he first was injured. A while back I tried wrapping his leg but it didn't seem to help at all, so I just let him be in his cage. His eating and drinking and mental state hasn't been affected by his leg. I hope your quail gets...
A few minutes ago my quail flew up, banged his head, and crashed onto the floor. Now he's laying down (which he doesn't do that often) and sort of sleepy. What do I do? I'm so worried for him because yesterday while I was away, I think he strained his leg and it got worse. Is it possible for a 3...
@Nabiki Unfortunately, the vet isn't an option. I want to try strapping the leg in a couple of days if his leg doesn't improve. Does massaging his leg/knee joint help, and if it does, how should I massage it?
I have a male coturnix quail (who turns 3 yrs next month) sprained his right leg exactly 20 days ago. I brought him in for about a week, and it has healed enough for him to walk normally, although I did notice that he was a bit more clumsy than usual. About a week after I let him outside (he...
Update: she laid an egg at 2:15 pm! :wee
The shell was thin, but if this keeps up hopefully the shell-less eggs were a one-time thing (technically two times).
Yes, she is drinking, and she ate a fair amount later this day. I'm just worried if she's going to keep laying shell-less eggs at night and/or get an infection from the egg contents inside her system.
Yes, she has access to oyster shells. She is on chick starter, because she's really picky and doesn't touch the layer feed at all, so I just provide oyster shells and there hasn't been a problem of shell-less eggs until two days ago. I tried the warm feed, didn't really work, so I'll try the...
Hi all,
the Rhode Island Red hen, who's turning 6 later this month, laid a shell-less egg (no membrane) 2 days ago, at approx 8 pm. Definitely not a regular laying time. The next morning, her crop didn't go down, but throughout the day it did go down. She lays one egg every 2 days, and today...
You can put her with the other females, and watch if they try to peck at her. If they do, put Potatoe in a separate cage until she heals. Good luck with the clipping!
I would just separate the males from the females because it doesn't seem like there are enough females to go with males, unless you can get more. Or you can put one male with the four females, and see how that goes. From my experience, I've had a female who'd been targeted by a male, and the top...
@azygous @proudchickenmom she sadly passed away this morning at 1:24 am. I knew she wasn't going to make it past last night, so I cradled her in my arms until she died. After further thought, I realized the mucus in her airway caused her to suffocate to death. It's sad when things have to die...
So would the bacteria develop into a "superbug" of some sort, and that's why her respiratory disease is worse?
Edit: she was fine eating the antibiotic food until she didn't eat food altogether. On the day she wasn't eating, her crop was only half-drained, but it wasn't impacted crop nor sour...
She was on for about 4.5 days, on the fourth day she lost her appetite. I was doing it morning and night, and I made a typo on my last message. It was 200 mg, not 125. So about 400 mg/day. I stopped because I was putting the antibiotic on mushy food, which she ate without a problem until she...
So we have amoxicillin. I gave about 125 ml/2x a day to Joy about two weeks ago, but it didn't seem to have any effects, and it made her lose appetite. (We got the amoxillin from a relative from another country who then gave it to us upon visit.)
