    Definitely not RIRs.

Seems more plausible than RIR, that’s for sure lol

    Definitely not RIRs.

Craigslist! Lol. He showed me the mother (RIR) but the father looked like some kind of leghorn/EE cross.

    Definitely not RIRs.

I got some chicks a few weeks back and they’re now 6 weeks. I was told they’re RIR but that’s definitely not the case so, any ideas?

I’m back with another- is this a boy?

Another quick question! Any idea on the breeds? I was told RIR but obviously that is not true for either

I’m back with another- is this a boy?

Oh gosh! For both! Looks like I’ll have to pick a favorite or maybe someone’s comb will slow down- I don’t think I’ll be that lucky though.

I’m back with another- is this a boy?

I came here some weeks ago asking about gender, of course, and was told to wait a few weeks until they mature some. The babies are now 6 weeks and fairly feathered so help a girl out. Who’s a roo, who’s an egg layer?

Wait... these aren’t Rhode Island Reds..?

My two best hens were RIR’s! Now my new favorite is my leghorn lol

    I’m no chick expert- but..

I think it was Easter Egger or Americana rooster (they come in so many colors ) The people selling the chicks were very, very foreign and lacked most proper English so I can see why there may have been confusion. I guess time will tell!

    I’m no chick expert- but..

After looking further at the pictures the man had posted on Craigslist. It looks like he has an Aracauna rooster with RIRs and one aracauna hen. He definitely didn’t have any Cornish cross (thankfully) I’m putting my money on some kind of possible RIR/Aracauna mix. Silly me.

    I’m no chick expert- but..

I got them from someone off of Craigslist (risky right). He even showed me the hen which was definitely a Rhode Island Red but I noticed the rooster was white. Thank you guys!

    I’m no chick expert- but..

I bought two chicks yesterday. I’m very new to chicks so I have no clue what I’m looking for- I’m doing a test run to see if I can even keep them alive and see if this is something I’d like to do again next spring. Anyways, two chicks bought yesterday and I was told they’re RIR, after looking up...

Wait... these aren’t Rhode Island Reds..?

So, I bought two chicks yesterday under the impression they’re RIR. This is my first time with chicks and I’m more or less testing the waters and seeing if this is something I can do. Anyways, I took the guys word these are RIR without much thought as I can’t identify chicks and their breeds...

    Egg thief

Sounds like a raccoon or possum. They’re both excellent climbers and can scale right over a fence. I’d be careful because they will go after your hens if they’re feeling up for a fight.

Eggs vanishing with no trace. Need ideas.

I had this happen. I had 10 chickens at the time and was only getting 3-4 eggs a day which left me quite dumbfounded since all of my hens are excellent layers. Anyways, the culprit was a black snake. They don’t leave any traces since they swallow the thing whole. Raccoons and possum are pretty...

Get real. Turkeys would be infinitely funnier.

Some of us have jobs in the city and can’t afford to move away but thanks for your evaluation. I wasn’t raised in the city which is why I have such an issue with the yuppies and their dog-children.

No, I don’t believe someone’s dog should be killed for being a dog but there needs to be accountability. My neighbors who just moved in let their 2 very massive dogs roam their yard, no leash, no chord, no fence. They’re playing a dangerous game knowing I have chickens just across the way as...

I think most of the people on here have given a huge middle finger to their state or county by having more birds than “allowed”. I’m supposed to pay $60 a year for a permit and only have 4 hens (in chicken math, I only have 4, wink wink) But I was reading that the residence are upset because if...
