Hey Everyone! I’ve discovered mites in my chicken coop. We’ve had terribly humid and wet weather here lately and I noticed them first on my coop door knob. Anyway, I need to treat them but am limited on what I can use because we run an apiary and one of our bee yards is less than 25 feet or so...
So, I just took him to the house for his nightly meds and some plain yogurt. Crop is still inflated. I’ve attached a pic of a poop from just while we were up getting meds. No evidence of coccidiosis that I can see. I have a droppings board under my roost and I’ve seen nothing alarming.
Can you...
Hey all! Hoping some of you more experienced chicken owners can send some advice my way. I have a Marans rooster who has had an inflated crop since at least Tuesday. He is 12 weeks old and they eat nutrena starter with the occasional snack of watermelon, apple, blueberries. They are in an...
I’m glad you had a good turnout. Are you hatching for your own flock?
I am currently hatching to start my own mixed flock. I have Brahma, Dominique, olive eggers, ameraucana, standard and bantam Cochins, silkies and Polish. I’ll be adding at least one Orpington chick once these guys hatch.
I...
Anyone have a favorite magazine that they subscribe to that is chicken related? My husband subscribed to Backyard Poultry as a gift for me and while it is okay I was hoping for something that was a little more informative or technical in terms of caring for or having chickens.
Thanks!
How did your hatch go? I hope you had a good turn out.
My second batch is a week and a half out. I’m using my hovabator. Started with 22. 3 were unfertile and two were early quitters. Hoping the rest goes smoothly!
Hi all! I posted Tuesday about my last baby that hatched and I still am at a loss. I don’t want to give up if I need to wait but also don’t want to have this baby suffering.
It hatched late Tuesday morning and just never took off and gained strength. It would go backward in the incubator when it...
Hi! I was wondering what became of the chick that you treated? I have a 2 day old hatchling that wasn’t week from the beginning but today it’s worse. It’s neck is down so far now it is doing forward rolls. It’s tough to watch and the last thing I want is to leave it suffering. I started...
I was doing paper towels at the bottom and just switched to pine shavings for litter a little bit earlier this morning because they are pooing up a storm. They love to eat! I did add in the grit so hopefully we will be okay with the pine shavings. They immediately started pecking at it.
Great, thanks! I went ahead and just sprinkled a little for them even though they just have the regular chick crumbles for now. I don’t have other chickens and actually don’t even have a coop yet, we are building! These babies won’t be staying with us. A friend gave me some eggs to trial my...
Hi! I have some 2 day and 1 day old chicks that I hatched out and I am unsure of how to incorporate their grit. The 2 days olds are finally starting to explore their food more and I want to make sure they have all they need. The bag of grit I have gives no real recommendations other than to...
Thank you! I will see what tomorrow holds. My kids, but particularly my oldest two girls (5 and 6) are just in love with all these chicks. We have talked about how delicate chicks are and some may not be okay. We had 10 fertile, 8 hatch. I think we’ve done okay so far.
Thank you! Glad your baby is okay. This little one is hanging on. Tractor supply closed with new hours due to the quarantine and I didn’t make it to pick up the nutridrench tonight. I have some water probiotics that contains vitamin E and other vitamins that I am having it take sips of and I am...
How is your chick? I have a new hatchling and it can’t seem to get going. I am not sure why. It was initially only going backward and now goes forward but not easily and then just lays it’s head down and closes its eyes. I was told perhaps to get it some vitamins so I just was curious how things...
I have the Durvet probiotic powder to add to water and that has multiple vitamins in it, including vitamin E but not selenium. I could get the nutridrench at tractor supply I believe.
It’s legs seem okay and it moves them just fine. Just like it can’t get up easily and tires out after a few...
Not really. It’s more like it just can’t get itself coordinated and will take a few steps and then just lay down forward. Or it will just go backwards. I can’t get a good video of it.
