    Depressee hen

I still have 8 hens with her, shes typically one of my "bully" hens. Shes been walking around, almost like shes sulking, shes also been super quiet, which is unusual for her. It's been 2 days since it happened and she is other wise healthy, still drinking but wont eat. I checked her for wounds...

    Depressee hen

My lead chicken, Rufio, passed away recently. One of my other hens was very close to her and I believe she is starting to show signs of being depressed. Does anybody know anything I can do to help her or is this kind of a play it by ear situation?

    Muck butt...

One of my hens, since she was a chick, seems to always have diarrhea. She constantly has poop on her butt fluff. Shes the only one out of 10 that has the issue. No matter how many baths she gets, no matter the diet, I cant seem to fix it

Have you ever had hens kill each other?

I had my lead hen kill my porcelain d'uccle rooster, he was much smaller than her and she had previously been grounded for bloodying him up the week before.

Official BYC Poll: How Long Have You Been Raising Chickens?

I started off with 12 chickens, well 11 chickens and a rooster. I lost two of them to extreme bullying by my now head honcho hen, one of them being my beautiful porcelain d'uccle rooster. I've got 3 Rhode island reds who have just started laying last week, two orpingtons, a barred rock, A silver...

    Thoughts on hay

I'm just worried about them being able to defend themselves against the local cats and such

    Thoughts on hay

I have seen them eat it, and whenever I clean the coop and lay more hay they come running in to eat it. Honestly I just think they like it, especially the Timothy hay I put in their nesting boxes

    Thoughts on hay

I usually use hay in my coop. My husband came home from a job on a farm and said that the lady told him not to use hay, because they get bored and eat it, eventually binding them up and causing a problem. Does anyone know anything about this? Should I switch to a different bedding. Also, they...

    Hens are bullies...

All my roosters are, unfortunately younger, bantam breeds so they're so much smaller, and I guess that's what made him the easy target since he is the smallest.

    Hens are bullies...

I don't know for sure which is the culprit, but I have an idea who it is. I'll try taking her out and see if it makes a difference.

    Hens are bullies...

My hens tore up my poor little man, I bandaged him up and put him in isolation, any suggestions?

    Not a silkie?

Thank you! I'm pretty sure that makes five cockerel total in my flock. I was hoping to use the silkies as brooder hens but it's not looking promising

    Not a silkie?

    They are hatchery chicks

    Not a silkie?

Only four toes on each foot

    Not a silkie?

Only four toes, they are between 6 and 8 weeks since I cant remember exactly when I got them. From what I can tell I think the other three are cockerel as well...

    Not a silkie?

This little one came in with my silkie, I'm pretty sure that's not what she is. She has feathered feet but is not like the others.

    What breed is she?

Thank you! I won't lie, she's kind of my favorite. I think she knows.

    Cinnamon queen question

Oh, alright! I was more concerned that something was wrong with them honestly. Like maybe they were attacking eachother, because they are rather feisty ladies.
