Is there a pattern on the bottom of the pool? I have a friend whose ducks were totally freaked out by the pattern on the bottom of the kiddie pool. She put some floating lillies and tossed grass scraps and put pebbles on the bottom and problem solved!
Good luck!
I always use white shavings and have never had any problems. I check them in the morning and when I get home, but I have never had a problem. At my store, we also recommend that people use white shavings (in addition to using them ourselves) and have not had problems. Hope that helps.
Don't...
My beagles are wonderful with the chickens and are left unsupervised with them all the time. They will sleep together on the lawn furniture! Here are pics from when they were chicks! (Sadly, my third dog can not be left with them!)
And here's one of my cat. She adopts every bird that comes...
My beloved chicken Thelma died today. She was a 5 month old Buckeye that just refused to grow. She had several health crisis that I nursed her back from but she just wouldn't grow or keep weight on. All of my other chickens rejected her, so she spent a lot of time with me. I'm heartbroken...
Here's my outdoor brooder. It has my new ducks in it currently.
It's made from a Midwest Exercise Pen folded into a rectangle. It is kept on my covered porch. The porch is surrounded in clear, corregated plastic on 2 sides, my house on one side and a small area (on the far end) that is open as...

I tried the romaine tonight; they seemed to enjoy tossing it around but didn't eat that much. Now my chickens on the other hand, they devour the romaine!
Ok, they have been fairly 'peepy' sounding. But today after work I designed and built a (rather wonderful!) outdoor brooder on my porch and when I was moving them out there they started making some new noises and they sounded like they might be the beginnings of quacking! Hurray! Fingers crossed!!
I have had my ducks for 1 day... so I'm no expert. But I've been treating them with frozen peas in water. I hand feed them the peas and they love them and then leave a few in the water for them to 'fish' out... too cute! They alreadyget so happy when I walk into the brooder and check out my hands!
Peas! They LOOOOVE them! But now I'm questioning if they are really 4 weeks... everybody seems to say they should really have some feather action at 4 weeks and they have very little. I don't know ducks!
