What do I do about this button chick's feet???

Just to clarify, this isn't a wound, it's a growth. It's like a raised mole. There is no blood and no scabbing.

What do I do about this button chick's feet???

Not unless there was a sharp bit of pine in there. Both feet, however, are puffy. My other quail chick's feet are tiny and spindly. I can't say if he or another chick is pecking at his feet when they're all in the nest box at night.

What do I do about this button chick's feet???

Need some help with my one button quail chick's feet. I sent these photos to my avian vet, who said "Infection, likely septic arthritis, can happen from a yolk sac infection, could be from pecking or other trauma." However she is off this weekend and I haven't heard back from her about what to...

Help! My Blue Breasted lost his mate...

Ahhh thank you both! Very helpful! I'll be getting my little buddy a new mate from one of the other quail families in my area and slowly introducing them!

Help! My Blue Breasted lost his mate...

I have a male Chinese Blue Breasted button who recently lost his mate. He was very attached to her. Every time I would take her out of the pen, even for a minute, he would start crowing for her. She recently passed (three days ago) and he has not stopped crowing for her. I'm not sure what to do...

    Pasteurizing... button quail eggs?

Thanks! I was going to do it just to be on the safe side because I have a compromised immune system and wanted to be on the safe side.

    Pasteurizing... button quail eggs?

Has anyone ever done this? I have 7 female button quail and ALL of them lay. I know how to pasteurize a chicken egg, would I do the same for an egg so tiny or would it just cook it? Anyone ever done it before?

Cage cleaning with a brooding hen...?

OK, so when I cleaned the cage, I took all the birdies out, because Hen Wen saw me taking everyone out and putting them in their little holding pen, and wanted to go along too. So I popped her in there, and scooped all the bedding out around the nesting box. Through the whole thing, I kept...

Cage cleaning with a brooding hen...?

She does leave to eat, but the enclosure is rather large and she is very calm, so I could clean out beneath the food and water (which is at the other end of the cage) and put fresh for the others to distribute. I don't necessarily want more chicks, but I also don't want to kill chicks that could...

Cage cleaning with a brooding hen...?

I don't think it'll last another 10 days or more. I've noticed with these quail, incubation can be up to 24 days! I think I'm going to try cleaning around her, and see how that goes! She's in a brooding box, so she may not be too disturbed!

Cage cleaning with a brooding hen...?

You know, I have NEVER read the series! But guess who's going to look for it now?? :D

Cage cleaning with a brooding hen...?

I could, but I'm not sure how I'd do it without scaring the dickens out of her.

Cage cleaning with a brooding hen...?

I keep my Button Quail in one of those giant sterilite containers, which I've modified. Usually my buttons have no interest in sitting on their own eggs, but recently, my sweet little Hen Wen (yes I named my quail after the pig from the Black Cauldron) has been sitting on six eggs. Welp, the...

Help! Button Quail chick w/ Black toes? Spreading!

mixedUPturk- Thanks for the welcome! That's exactly what brought me here, unfortunately, but I got to looking around the site and I love the community and how friendly/knowledgeable everyone is! I'm in SoFla, so you're right, the weather is very similar. I don't, however, have a safe place to...

Help! Button Quail chick w/ Black toes? Spreading!

I'll have to see what my local Home Depot/Lowes has in the way of dirt that I could use for bedding. What temp do you recommend? Everywhere I read says to keep the temp at around 85F between weeks 3 and 5. Should I lower it to 80? My house is about 76F normally.

Help! Button Quail chick w/ Black toes? Spreading!

This is what I have going for the brooder. Switched the heat lamp out with a different bulb and It's staying around 84F. Paper towels down instead of the mat. I have the mat beneath the paper towels so they don't slip all over the bottom of the bin. Humidity is around 39% right now. There is a...

Help! Button Quail chick w/ Black toes? Spreading!

Texas Kiki - Yes, that's the feed I use. I completely missed the message about the picture of the rest of the cage and started cleaning it today, so when I put it back together, I'll snap a pic. What's your opinion on the bedding? I have pine shavings, but I noticed my last batch of chicks kept...

Help! Button Quail chick w/ Black toes? Spreading!

Also, this is what they do most of the day. They huddle beneath the heat lamp as though they are very cold. None of them seem sick, they all love to run and play, and they like to be handled. They just.... like to make me feel guilty that I'm not blasting them with heat I suppose...

Help! Button Quail chick w/ Black toes? Spreading!

I only give them the treats twice a week. My other birds (which I hatched) did amazing, but I'll stop the treats. I didn't think it would be an issue. I feed them FRM game bird starter with about 5% Raff protein added (because I believe FRM only has about 20% protein.) Again, my other birds...
