I think you should stop giving them all the treats. You are taking away from a complete balanced diet by doing so.I checked, and there is no hair or anything wrapped around the leg or toes. I'm worried because the nails on the other foot appeared to be turning black at the very tips as well. No changes since yesterday in the chick. I did, however, set up the new thermometer, and the temp read 93F rather than the 90F that my digital was reading last night. I'm lowering to 85. It's just about there, now. (i did this slowly as to not shock the chicks)
2 many chickens- the heat is def off, that's for sure. I think he looks sticky because I had just fed them, and part of their diet is a puree I make for them. Last night was a mix of pumpkin, grains, and apple. They also like to play in the water. I'm not sure if the 'sticky' look is because they're messy eaters, or because of the humidity. The humidity reads 32%. I live in FLA, so humidity fluctuates.
FMR is the brand name? Do you have a link to their website?I only give them the treats twice a week. My other birds (which I hatched) did amazing, but I'll stop the treats. I didn't think it would be an issue.
I feed them FRM game bird starter with about 5% Raff protein added (because I believe FRM only has about 20% protein.) Again, my other birds did amazing on this. I was going by the advice of my local bird store (they're a specialty exotic store, which sells a variety of quail as well) but if there is something better I could be feeding them, any advice is welcome!
Can you take a picture of the whole cage? Also, this is what they do most of the day. They huddle beneath the heat lamp as though they are very cold. None of them seem sick, they all love to run and play, and they like to be handled. They just.... like to make me feel guilty that I'm not blasting them with heat I suppose... View attachment 1916849
