Well that settles that, Thank you all so much for your opinions! I have shredded many newspapers and dumped them in the coop and the chickens seem to not even notice! Mixed in well with the wood chips. I actually can't wait to start my new compost pile here. I love to go fishing and there...
We just bought a home and are moving in. The chickens had a hard time with this move as they were all (24) stuck in our brooder tractor for the last week and a half. On our new property there is a beat up 60 x 12 trailer home that we are using partially for storage. We converted the back room...
Well, I gotta tell yas, this has been very interesting stuff! Starting at the beginning, we had the two Egyptians laying on eggs. Well three of the eggs hatched and we moved the two hens and the three chicks to our brooder tractor. Shortly after one of the chicks passed, so we removed it...
Thanks for the replies/posts! We appreciate any responses! The eggs should start hatching today! We may be a lil over anxious, but its very exciting for us being our first batch of hens! The Australorps is confused and continues to move from box to box laying on any thing she can find...
Thank you Barefootmom! There are so many topics here! I did try for a few minuts to find one based on my questions, but I do not have a lot of time for the internet! That link is VERY LONG! I read the first 3 pages, and will read more tomorrow. It is interesting to read about all others...
We started raising chickens last year and our chickens are just now a lil over 1 year old. We purchased them from McMurray Harchery. Our flock consists of 15 hens, mostly 2 each of several different varieties, and 1 Araucana rooster - Goro, he is gorgeous!
We have an Egyptian Fayoumis hen...
We have 14 chicks that are 7 weeks old. They are still much smaller than Goro, Lola and Snowball. When do we introduce them to the adults coop? How will they fit in to a tight fit group. Will Goro our Roo take to 14 more young hens nicely or will we have a problem?

Well this is a heck of a thread, and answered many questions I have. I got a couple chickens with the leg mites, and will be using the tea tree oil and mineral oil to fight it. I will post in a week with the results!
Not to combat any opinions here about WD-40 - it is the...

Well, I'm no expert but in general sand is finely ground rock & mineral deposits, which rocks & which minerals of course vary by location. If you take for example coastal sand, which would be full of bits & pieces of coral & shells; where my inland sand is mostly comprised of quartz...

Thank you Margot, it is bothersome for sure, we just want to get her back to good health. I wish we could tell how old she is.
Any one else have any ideas??
Lola is a few years old, and had a clutch of peeps last year. She is showing signs of sickness. She has the runs, and was laying sand paper like very rough eggs. Then she started to lay soft shelled eggs for the last week. That slowly turned into partial soft shells and runny goo in the...
