That makes sense. Thanks for the input! 🥰

    Leg/foot injury

My wording must have been unclear. Flossie’s misfortune happened on 9/25/20. I am thankful that through a little TLC she is making progress. Hopefully she will be back in the swing of things before long. Thanks! 🥰

    Leg/foot injury

The two bubbles of fluid showed up on day three. I left them alone the first day. The second day I decided that the fluid was bound to be a source of increased pain. The drain was created by using an insulin syringe. Once they drained I put her in a warm epsom salt bath then dressed her foot...

    Leg/foot injury

I did “surgery” on Flossie’s foot yesterday. I drained the two fairly large bubbles of fluid on her foot, let her soak in a warm Epsom salt bath, applied the chicken blue salve that has borax then applied a gentle dressing. This morning she was standing gently touching her toes in the ground...

    Leg/foot injury

The more understandable way to have written that sentence would be to have said that I hope there will be visible improvement after a week. Sometimes I think folks are clairvoyant and know what is in my head. LOL! 😬

    Leg/foot injury

You are correct with your initial interpretation. The post was done right after Flossie’s injury. I was trying to convey that I think there should be some improvement after a week. Hopefully with some tender loving care she will make a full recovery. I’m willing to be patient with her recovery. 🥰🥰🥰

    Leg/foot injury

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I do PT and have given her a nice epsom salt soak. She is eating, drinking and pooping. She is in our “hospital” which is a section of the run that provides full view of the other girls, is covered, and provides her peace and quiet. I make sure to pick...

    Leg/foot injury

Thanks! I didn’t wrap it tightly. 😉. I also double checked her toes to be sure they weren’t cold. The wrapping was primarily to keep the blue ointment on her leg and provide only a slight amount of compression. I also didn’t leave it on for a long time. I appreciate your input. 🥰

    Leg/foot injury

Thanks! I didn’t wrap it tightly and I only left it on for a couple of hours. I double checked her toes to be sure they weren’t cold. I appreciate the heads up. 😉👍👍

    Leg/foot injury

I had her soak in a warm epsom salt bath for about 15 minutes, put some blue ointment on her leg, wrapped it in a thin layer of gauze then taped it for a small amount of pressure to help reduce the swelling. I think there should be some sign of improvement after a week. Oh - I also put vitamins...

    Leg/foot injury

Well she is still not putting any weight on the hurt leg. It is still swollen. She does eat and drink. Hopefully she will get better. 🥺

    Leg/foot injury

Thanks! The area where she is has visual access by all other flock members. Her sisters stayed in close proximity to her all afternoon yesterday. One of my concerns is Buffy, the lowest in the hierarchy of the laying hens, tends to chase the pullets. I didn’t/don’t want Buffy to compound any...

    Leg/foot injury

Thanks for the recommendation. She seems to have settled in a nice fluffy corner of clean flakes. I hope she can get out and forage by tomorrow morning. She did stand up and get water just a few minutes ago. 🥰

    Leg/foot injury

I just checked on her again. She is standing up getting water. I will keep her quarantined tonight so she doesn’t have to jump up or down getting on or off the perch. I hope I am not speaking too soon but I think she will be okay. 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

    Leg/foot injury

Thanks! I think I will go with lifting her up a few times a day and moving her leg to help work the bruising out and keep the range of motion. The more I think of the Epsom soak the less I think it would help. Warm water would open blood vessels (that’s in my head) which would be counter...

    Leg/foot injury

My 18 week old pullet managed to get her leg hung in the arm of a garden chair. She was hanging upside down when I got home. I was gone for about an hour and a half. When I freed her she could barely walk on the leg that was hung. It does not feel like any bone was broken. She is isolated with...
