I need to start building a pen for my quails asap and can't decide on how to do it, I'm looking for ideas and suggestions. I have 12 6 week old bobwhites and 12 week old coturnix. Are they better on the ground or up off the ground? Can I use 1/2 inch hardware cloth or should it be 1/4 inch?

Is it odd for a rooster to sleep on the floor? Last night I went in the coop twice and found the rooster sleeping on the floor. I've never seen any chickens on the floor at night before. I have 2 roosting poles, all the chickens were crammed on one, none on the other and the rooster on the floor.

My hen has a cut on her neck, I'm guessing it's from the rooster. Im not sure how serious this is, if I should just let her be, or put something on it and isolate her. I haven't noticed the others going after her at the moment.
