Hello! My almost 8 week old Jumbo quail has an injury on her pad. They are on 1/2” wire (8 females 1 males in 8 sq ftcage).I saw blood everywhere this morning. Complicated by the fact I think they are molting (and at 7 weeks old wth). Advice appreciated.
they are on 28 %purina gamebird and...
Wish I couldn’t post a video. But I noticed a quail chick moving it’s neck weird I picked it up and it has a hard (impacted?) red lump in its throat? Is this a feed issue? These are stills from a video.
I feel like the guys are settling down a little. But want to make sure. My thermometer says it’s 85-87(they keep knocking it around) .they were napping together (mostly) away from the bulb. So I turned it down a little. Now They’re kind of spread out napping. Are they getting their night/day...
No leakage after raising the waterer. Apparently I did the brooder thing all wrong for such a large hatch lol. I added a second brooder just the other day.i wish I could move them into their hutch. it’s still quite cold here in NC.
I had tried a plate under it to catch water and keep out shavings. That didn’t work. They managed to still soak bedding. I just turned a bowl upside down and placed the waterer on that. Wish me luck lol
I accidentally bought DuMor chick starter instead of Manna Pro chick/game bird starter. The GA and ingredients are similar.
Is it okay if I don’t transition? Here’s the pics of the bags. (The one with a separate pic of the Ga and ingredients is Manna Pro)
My aunt lived beside a family that kept peafowl for decades. She want to purchase some, but the only place I can find is cackle hatchery. They ship live chicks and I’m a little weary of that. I have only incubated quail chick eggs, but Is that something you can do with peafowl?
Thanks!
Is there an easy way I’m not thinking of,to clean the pine bedding? I was trying to use a cat litter scooper (new) but that isn’t working. Should I just change out bedding entirely?
They have light on during the day,and dim light at night.
Kind of related....but they are on pine chips. What the best way to clean? I was using a cat litter scoop, but it’s tedious with 35 chicks lol
I checked and all remaining were “duds”. There were two fully formed chicks. The membrane looked dry. And the air cell was big.
Anyways, there are two I’m worried about. The late hatchers...can I use modified settings/care and keep them in the incubator? I’ll be more prepared with a 2nd small...
