Yes great stuff. Chickens need to dust bath to control lice and mites. When it’s raining there needs to be a dry place for them to dust bath. I put Pestene in the dust holes. Ag Lime in the dust holes, beds and nests regularly.
lice and mites die in dust.
Buy a fully automatic incubator and keep it in your laundry. If you buy chicks you need a brooder anyway. So buy a new design Brinsea brooder ( the chick go under it) and a big cheap clear plastic storage bin with a lid.
mall perfect for raising chicks.

Please sell them to someone so they can live a more natural life. This one looks like a rooster so the one he can not stand is no doubt also a rooster.
Chickens love to scratch the ground and have dust baths and eat bugs and grass. It’s cruel to keep them indoors.
Absolutely agree, I don’t have to buy eggs as I keep chickens. They adore to get out of their spacious pens and runs to explore. They do not go more than about 100 feet from their homes. They could go for miles. They love scratching the ground, having dirt baths, pecking grasses, searching for...
Yes maybe, the commercialisation of the term annoys you, but domestic chickens do not go far from their home. We have acreage here and my chickens could go for miles but they don’t. They stay within about 100 feet of their home. They love to get out of their pens. They’re waiting to get out in...
We have lots of introduced foxes in Australia. They’ll happily dig into a chicken pen so most of our pens have concrete footings or as I have plenty of space I used the cheaper option of wide chicken netting spread on the ground along outside the pen. It’s tied to the pen with wire. The fox...
Your hens are very fortunate to have their poop cleans out daily. I have a deep litter system too, I take out the poop every week or two for my compost. I wait until until I can smell ammonia before doing a complete clean out. (about twice a year) or if I see any red mites, usually late winter...
Hens need to dust bath in order to clean their feathers and to control mites and lice.
so an outdoor area which has dry dirt for them to dig is an essential part of their life if they’re to be happy and content. I have tarps over some sections of each run and my hens go out into our yard each...
I had cattle dogs who were great with the chickens.
never touched them. They’d even sneak into the chicken run to steel food scraps but didn’t look at the chickens.
However, these 4 dogs were raised with chickens and scolded as pups if they ever got the slightest bit excited about a fluttering...
Yes definitely! I save all the egg shells in a paper bag so they dry out completely. Then we crush them and give them to my girls.
indeed when. Have too many eggs or discover a set of dubious eggs, I put them whole into the blender and make scrambled eggs & shell for the girls. I never cease to...
Leave them locked in for 3 days. Then only let them out late say 3 ish on the first day gradually get earlier. feed them inside the run.
water inside the run.
