    Questions about chicken colours

I'd love to! Still getting my head around the E locus. 'Crele' is e+ (duckwing) with barring, and 'Red Crele' is the same + Mh. So you're basically creating wheaten with barring? Or am I wrong...

    Questions about chicken colours

@MysteryChicken Thank you. That's a gorgeous roo. So lemon chickens do exist. @NatJ Thanks for digging up those links. I'll have to do some asking around. All these questions are for a visual tool I'm making. If beak/legs and hackles/saddles are always matching, they can use the same image...

    Questions about chicken colours

@The Moonshiner Thank you. This is the first time I've heard of the fast/slow feathering, that's cool. @MysteryChicken Yes, it seems there are a few possible gene combos. I meant, where are the images of it? Lots of pics of lemon cuckoo, lemon pyle, lemon millefleur etc, but no plain...

    Questions about chicken colours

@MysteryChicken Thank you. I couldn't find buff on Henk's calculator, but now I see it is there. So, where are the all-lemon chickens (buff without Mh)? Lots of 'lemon cuckoo' search results, but can't find any without barring. Is lemon just an unpopular colour?

    Questions about chicken colours

Hi, I'm trying to learn about chicken genetics and general appearances. No breeds in particular. 1. Blue or green eyes. Heritable? If so, dominant or recessive? Can't find any info at all. (not talking about ocular Marek's) 2. Some breeds have black eyes. What happens if they're crossed with...

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas yesterday. How are we all coping with the miserable weather? Seems autumn and winter so far have been total washouts. Constant drizzle and mud everywhere. My poor chickens have probably forgotten what sunlight is!

Hen is stumbling, falling, with droopy wing

Oh my. Just went to check for the night, and rather than being on the ground, she's roosting in her usual spot at the far end. Well, with one leg standing on the tray beneath the branch, but still. It took considerable jumping and climbing to get up there. Seems like an improvement.

Hen is stumbling, falling, with droopy wing

I'm not allowed to keep this hen indoors any more, so she's back with the others. If it is Marek's, wouldn't it already have spread to them all by now? Since it takes a while to show symptoms. Anyway, no changes for the last couple of days. If she stops eating or her legs deteriorate further...

Hen is stumbling, falling, with droopy wing

chickens really and ErnieBerley - aww, I'm so sorry for your losses. Today, my girl is no longer dragging her wing around. She doesn't move it, but it stays folded along her side. She also manages to lean down and peck at seed without falling forward. Still very worried though. I'm trying to...

Hen is stumbling, falling, with droopy wing

Ahhh... please not Marek's! I had heard of it before, but thought it was more dramatic, like total paralysis, rather than stumbling. Thanks for the info, Eggcessive. I'll keep her inside.

Hen is stumbling, falling, with droopy wing

Rachel Taylor - yes, anemia from red mites is the only thing we can think of, right now. So we're going all-in on eradicating them. Cathy Henny - it's been a few days. Can't imagine what has stung her. Did your chicken recover from it? Forgot to add, we also dusted all the hens with mite...

Hen is stumbling, falling, with droopy wing

Hello, I'm new here, so apologies if I miss anything out. One of my hens is struggling. Last Thursday, I noticed her wobbling a lot, as if her legs were weak. Gave her a thorough inspection, found no wounds or anything. On Saturday the vet saw her, and also found no obvious cause. (This is in...
