I don't have any chickens at all. Let alone have hatched one. So I think even if it's an 'ordinary, common, dime-a-dozen leghorn' as your post implies - well, I think that would make it pretty darn special to me!

I think mailing him a letter would be a good idea. Telling him what is happening, you don't want his chickens trespassing in your yard, and he will be held financially accountable if it continues. Send a CC to the sheriff with a note asking them to keep it on record.

That's pretty much what I thought (especially the fertilizer part) but thought just in case.
I only have 3 foot and 4 foot fencing around it so I guess that's a no-go anyway as far as escapees being possible. Guess I"ll have to come up with a portable run to move around the back yard.
