Hi Sac County BYCers. I've had chickens in my backyard for over 6 years and just got a notice from the county that I'm illegally raising them. My lot is just under 10,000 sq ft so evidently I need some type of permit.
I'm waiting for a response back from the zoning folks to get their side but...
Like others have said, your garden will feed the chickens nicely and you'll be lucky to get any leftovers. I'm in the process of building some chicken tunnels around the raised beds in my garden so my 4 girls can stretch their legs and scratch around.
Hi guys and gals. My original flock of 4 ladies is now down to 2 and I'm looking for 3-4 more young pullets to add to the coop. I'm not picky about breed as I have them for entertainment and eggs. These are only for my flock, no breeding, no showing, etc. Does anybody have any available at a...
WOW! Those are some good lookin birds. I was gonna wait until spring to add to my flock of 3 but it's getting more difficult to not pull the trigger. Maybe I should just quit lookin at hit thread.

We bought 4 chicks from the feed store in Carmichael last April. Two SLW's and two "Americaunas" that I learned are really EE's. Great backyard flock. The EE's lay very cool greenish eggs that amaze people who've only seen white or brown eggs.
My kids and I had a fun time looking at all the different birds today. It's the first show we've been to and were very impressed. Been reading about the various breeds but getting to see them..... WOW. Some of those Minorcas (?) looked big enough for my dog to ride.
We managed to keep our...
Looks like me and the flock (DW, DSx2, DD) might make it to our first show. We'll be the family of five all wearing glasses. Noon at the food. And we're just lookin'!
I live in a city and have a (fairly) secure run. My four 11 month old girls get closed in their coop in the evening and I let them out each morning around 7:00. (later on weekends ) When I introduced them to their coop last summer, I did have to place them in the coop each night for about 10...
Here's another Northwest company selling whole grain feed. Even soy and corn free. I've only tried a sample but my girls loved it.

More good thoughts and prayers to you and your family. It can be tough sometimes, but the sun will rise tomorrow. Even when you can't see it through the clouds.
