I've grown potatoes in this tub for 2 years now with no problems.
I added new garden soil because I'd lost a lot due to runoff and compaction... Since I use the same garden soil in multiple beds with no problem, I don't think this is the culprit.
Could fusarium or verticullum be transferred...
I've developed a new problem.... Wilting potato plants. They are not turning yellow or anything. Just seem to wilt and die suddenly. It started with one plant. Suddenly, in a matter of 2 days, it was the entire tub almost... The plants were perfectly healthy right before this happened. I'll try...
This is inside my hoop house so hover flies won't be able to get in there... I have a healthy population of spiders but still not enough to resolve the avalanche of aphids...
Picked a bunch of stuff tonight to make a garden salad. This included a couple of volunteer carrots - one purple dragon and a couple of kuroda orange carrots. My experience with purple carrots holds... It's a hard, woody, and bitter experience. The kuroda were soft and sweet. I don't think I'm...
Aphids... Ugh. I hate them so much. They easily get through my insect netting and multiply to problem levels in the blink of an eye. I just sprayed for aphids a couple of days ago... And already. :barnie
Our grandparents were far more adaptable than current generations. Even me... Gen X. I've had to remind myself more than once that I don't (usually) need a specialized tool to do something. I just need to FITFO (figure it the F out). 😂 Get creative and keep trying if it doesn't work.
Well, I decided to change my main coop around a little bit so I could put the coop brooder at waist height. My body was protesting keeping it at ground level.... And I REALLY want to get the chicks out of the sunroom. They are stinky and awfully messy at this age. They don't quite have all their...

Nature hates me. Apparently I'm the last to figure this out...
I have 5 apple trees of various ages:
Mystery Apple - this was labeled a Pink Lady but it's not. It's a yellow-green apple instead of pink. This is the 3rd or 4th year I had it. It's probably 8 ft tall and my most mature...
One of my neighbors, who came to buy eggs this morning, brought me a nice beefsteak tomato plant and bell pepper start. 🤩 He also was going to give me a cucumber start but I told him I have nowhere to put it... So instead he's just going to bring me some cukes when they are ready. *cha-ching*
Oh yes, I can relate... We have these heavy (ridiculously heavy) iron bar fence panels that are used around the barn and coops. The bars are open at the top and wasps like to crawl inside and make nests inside the panel. I stuff old feed bags in them to block the holes. It looks like really...
I've got a bumper crop of them.... I'll package some up and send them to you. 😆 I can't put out a single bird feeder or birdhouse without them moving in uninvited... Not to mention regular nest checks in the barn, goat house, dog house, and coops. 🙄
If only I could trade them in for honeybees.
How old are your chicks again? In young chicks, I've found that looking at their combs is more indicative of figuring out roosters vs hens. Rooster combs usually turn pink sooner and are generally bigger than hen combs. Just my experience....
I know several people here have Greenstalks. I have 2 of them... The deep 5-tier ones. I'm not sure I'm a fan... I have one dedicated as a strawberry tower. The other one was used to grow lettuce last year. This year it's dedicated for cilantro, chives, Bunching onions, and parsley. OK... Here's...
