How to tell if chicks are too hot or too cold

Hi! I have chicks that are almost 3 weeks old. I am using a heat plate made by "producers pride" to heat their coop. Their brooder was inside my living room but they were very crafty at getting out often so I moved them outside on my front porch where I have a coop that I used with my older...

    2 week old babies outside.

Hi! I am wondering about housing 2 week old chicks outside with a heat plate plugged in for them. They are inside my living room now in a wood box where the sides are cardboard. Help! my chick is lethargic and looks sick.

Thanks so much for replying! I appreciate knowing they don't usually get ccoccidiosis at this age. I was really worried it would spread. Unfortunately the little lady passed away😰I'll definitely make sure and check the rest of them frequently. I will also go and purchase some save a chic...

Help! my chick is lethargic and looks sick.

Thank you! We did teach them how to drink. She seemed like she was doing fine with it all yesterday. The others seem to be almost in a "click" and way more agressive then she was. Today when I was assisting her with drinking she kept opening her beak like she was real thirsty. Then when I put...

Help! my chick is lethargic and looks sick.

A few years ago my family received some baby chicks from a friend who couldn't keep them. Things seemed pretty simple as they didn't get sick and taking care of them was fairly easy. So when I took my kids with me this year to the local farm store to pick out some new babies my confidence in...
