    Success!

We’ve been raising chickens for two years now and decided to hatch our own. It’s been so successful. We are at two dozen now with fifteen waiting to hatch. I made an incubator and hatched one and lost one. I have four eggs left in it. We’ve only lost four chickens. One I had to put down...

Solid Surface Roof on Run? Pros and Cons?

I have a 12x20 run with a tin roof, rusted. Really! We got it from an old farm building that a storm took out.

People with more than 10 chickens

We have an acre in the country in Iowa. We started out about nine months ago with the intent on starting out with a dozen. Then my wife went to a sale with a friend who raises chickens. She came back with fifty! We’re down to twenty-eight and are getting a dozen eggs per day. We give a lot away...

    Sad day

I had to put down our first roster we had. He was almost a year old but he lost being alpha and other rosters were picking on him so much that he lost half his weight and even had a bleeding home in his head from being pecked. We’ve been raising chickens for about ten months now. The lessons...

    Opinions on this coop?

I built my coup in the back of my shed. It’s 12x19 and we’ve had fifty in it at the beginning. We’re not down to thirty which is a good number for it. It’s about six feet tall and completely fenced in with a tin roof.

Can a dog and chickens safely coexist in a small backyard?

We have two Australian Shepard’s and a Shitzu and don’t have problems with them. When we first got started the youngest Aussie would chase them but not hurt then. Our neighbors lab has killed a couple though.

    Heat or not

I put in a vent two days ago up high. I have a shed roof without open soffits which is why I put the venting in. I showed a friend the coop today and she said I should close it off so that’s what I’ll do.

    Heat or not

We just started our chicken adventures. I built this coop which is about 8x10 and open to the north. Just outside of the coop is a 12x19 run with a shed roof covering six feet from the coop out. My question is-should I build a wall and a door to the coop for the winter? I’m in Iowa so it can get...

    More chicks than planned

We got the roster for 2.50! He has a deformed beck so he wasn’t sold. I can care less about that so now he has a good home.

    More chicks than planned

My wife and I are new to chickens. I finished a large chicken coup a few weeks ago and my wife went with a friend to look at chicks. We agreed on 12, she bought home 42! LoL. It’s been two weeks now and we’ve had no problems that we can’t handle. They’re growing great and were able to hold a...

    I built my first coup!

The VIP is open to run at this time but I’ll be building a wall and a door this fall. I live in windy Iowa so I will want more protection for them.

    I built my first coup!

I built our first chicken coup! It’s pretty big at 12x19 with 6x8 housing. I put chicken wire on top and buried it in the ground. A friend who raises chickens is going to give us three but we’re going to get a dozen more. Wish us luck.
