Sadly I’m a humble backyard chicken keeper, very few sqms to play with! But I have toyed with th idea of pots or any container really that I drop in for a few days then take out… not very practical but it’s a solution. Maybe I could do a pulley based system where I lower a whole row of plants...
This is .. not really helpful. I could tell you to take a bath in toothpaste or paracetamol and see what happens - eg im sure it would have ill effects, but it proves nothing because you just went way above recommend doses and even applied the dose differently eg directly to the egg instead of...
Hi all,
Seeking ideas from everyone around designing runs with greenery in a way that the chickens can’t destroy it all - hard I know!
For instance by surrounding a plant with heavy rocks I’ve been able to have such plants survive even if the leaves are picked on occasionally, the roots are...
Hmmmm… it’s ok if you don’t have a solution. We’re all here to learn from each other constructively. In that other amazing thread I asked for more photos which the author provided, and I continue to think it is possible to design well...
Amazing! can you show another pic of the inside to include the entrance? Or wherever they actually set onto the roost. All I could see was the wide mesh and I wondered, do they walk on that? It would be tricky no? In other words how do they go from entrance to roost.
Thanks!
Greetings all,
I was curious to see if any of you had achieved a coop design that made cleaning after poop particularly easy.
I know a board poop works for many but I’m looking for a design that solves it a bit further.
I was hoping to see designs where at least some of the poop falls...
Closing the loop on this one I found this post valuable. Echoes your overwhelming input that it shouldn’t be used all the time but does provide actual data on the benefits

Well I’m just baffled, if it’s a myth, why is it promoted on so many articles. Including on this site: https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/apple-cider-vinegar-and-garlic-two-of-the-best-and-natural-ways-to-keep-your-flock-healthy.67126/
I don’t care either way - I’m just surprised! I’m no...
Thank you for chiming in,

I have a white leg horn x (barter white) that use to lay good shell eggs. But for the past 9 months or so the norm has become soft shell eggs. Today I saw her purposefully lay the egg white while balancing herself on a rock feature i have in the run, so that the egg would break on lay and she...
Sorry for your loss.. Mine is about 2.5 years old. Still alive today she managed exit the coop house barely into the run but same miserable self, not a lot of movement other than twitching.
