My hatch is over. Out of 18 eggs that were not supposed to be fertle, 3 hatched. 2 naked necks and one mystery chick. They were all shrinkwrapped, so I had to help them out. It was a very messy hatch.
I totally forgot about them (I was too preoccupied with my rabbit show and pregnant doe). I just came home yesterday, heard peep g and thought a baby bird got in the house. I went out to the bunnybarn, came back in and heard the peeping. I finally looked in the incubator and saw a leg sticking...
This is my favourite little naked neck. Im not sure what colour she'll be.
Here is my little blue naked neck.
And this is the unknown black chick.
I was very surprised, as I didn't think any of the eggs would hatch.

They are one of my favourite breeds. And the chicks are just so darn cute! I was really happy when I saw it, because I didnt think any were going to hatch and I thought it was an americauna egg. Now Im hoping for baby bunnies tomorrow.
Well I had a little naked neck come out of one of the green eggs. It was a nice surprise, as I thought it was an americauna egg. She was a bit shrinkwrapped, so i had to take her out and peel the top of the egg that was stuck to her head off.
One is still pipping, and another just started.
I have chickens hatching! I honestly expected none to hatch as they wern't supposed to be fertle, I wasnt paying attention to the temp and humidity, and wasnt flipping them. Now I have one hatching, and one pipping! I will post pics as soon as possible.
Mind if I join in? I set 12 eggs 3 days ago and just candled. I could start to see some veins in 6 them. Im not sure what kind of eggs they are (I think there are some americaunas in there, though) so it will be a surprise. They are due to hatch on the 19th.

Answer to #1: She'll lay when she's mature enough. If the rooster is mounting her and she's holding still for it, she is probably close.
Answer to #2: See answer to #1.
Well after the initial "squawk" she held still. I hope she lays some eggs soon. I want to hatch some eggs!

Well I dont eat eggs, so I dont think that will be a problem. I actually want them to be fertile. 2 more questions:
1. About how long do you think until she starts to lay?
2.Is there anything to encourage her to lay?
I have 2 silkies. A 6mo pullet and a 5mo cockerel. I just got them back from the state fair and put them in a cage together to quarantine them. I was just turning around when I heard a loud noise coming from my pullet. I turned around and thought they were fighting...It took me a while to relies...
