    Snake

I lost a few young hens to a snake and posted previously. After losing the hens I put an SD card in my Wyze cam. Today I noticed I was missing a lot of eggs, and the SD card paid off. See video. I have to come up with a snake defense plan. Ignore the junk in the nest boxes. They aren't used...

    Odd deaths - Graphic Photo

I lost 2 12 week old Americanas today. I can't identify what killed them. I cant find bite marks. There is no signs of entry. Their heads look sucked on. Snake?

    1 week olds in coop

Trying something new and moved my 1 week olds to the coop. No issues and hopefully integration occurs younger than normal.

    Broody surrogate

I had 2 broody hens that reliably sat on fake eggs for a couple weeks. I tried to slip them some 3 day old chicks this morning. Both allowed them under their wings but would aggresivly peck them and make them squeel if they came out. Right now they are safely in their brooder and I'm debating...

    Fox

I haven't posted for awhile, but I just caught a fox in the act of carrying off a speckled Sussex. I chased it down and it dropped the bird. She has a slight limp, but otherwise pecking around the yard with the flock. Kind of crazy.

    Tick bite

I have a hen with severe swelling from a tick. Tick is removed. She seems happy. Does it need intervention of any sort?

    Pecked rooster

My 20 something weed old Welsummer rooster had some minor pecked feathers at the base of his tail. I put a hen saddle on him that barely covers the pecked area. I'll buy some no peck ointment tomorrow. Open to suggestions Hopefully it works itself out. He is is the only rooster with 15 hens...

    Lathargic

I have a 24 week old Rhode Island Red that was acting perfectly normal this morning. When I checked on them late afternoon, she was just standing, slightly puffed, and not acting herself. I moved her to the food and water and she took a drink, and continued just standing. I checked her over and...

    Eggs on Dropping Board

I know the chickens are just laying when their body decides too, but is there anything I can do to get them to lay during daylight hours? I have 2 that keep laying while it's dark. It's their first year laying. In the photo, one actually went to the nest box while it was still mostly dark.

    Roost space

I have understood the rule of thumb to be 8" of roost space for average sized birds. Currently I have slightly more in my coop than I probably should have. The roost is 9' long which gives 6.75" of roost space for each. Half the flock is full grown and half the flock is slightly less than full...

    Egg Eating

I feel like I am dealing with about every problem this year. I had a pullet laying an egg on my poop board every night. It would break. I also had an issue with thin shelled eggs until I switched to a thinner cut oyster shell that they like better. Between those 2 problems at least one of my...

    Rooster Aggression

I have another thread on this, but to save time reading it all, I'll repost and summarize. I had 3 young roosters. One I culled last week since the oldest 2 of the 3 were always fighting and drawling blood. They had both shown aggression toward me as well. Now the other older rooster tries to...

    Choosing Rooster

I need to give away one of my 2 roosters and I still can't choose which one. They are 19 weeks old. It's humerous watching the social dynamics, but I can't figure out what it means. We named them big Louie and little Louie since we knew one would go. Ironically there names are now opposite of...

    Something wrong??

I let the chickens put themselves to bed, but checked the cam and saw this one acting strange. Video attached. Her crop looks really swollen. I dont know if I should go grab her ore check her in the morning. I wouldn't know what to do other than not let her eat until it entire anyhow.

    Good supplement post Corid

I'm treating my flock for coccidiosis with Corid. Can anybody recommend a good vitamin supplement to follow up treatment with?

    Scratch and treats

I am dealing with a coccidiosis outbreak that I think I have under control now. In that past I have just thrown scratch or treats around the run, and I can't think of another way to do it. Even if I put treats on a "clean" surface they will just grab a piece and run around with their trophy...

    diarrhea

Related to a previous thread I posted, I have several 13 week old pullets that have had brown diarrhea. My poop board always has well formed droppings, so it appears the issue occurs during the day. I have noticed that the birds in question eat a lot of the falling leaves. Its humorous watching...

    Feather pulling

I have a super cute little 13 week easter egger that won't stop pulling feathers out of a 15 week cockeral. I keep hoping his hormones will kick in and she'll leave him alone. She leaves all the hens alone and only pecks at the the one rooster. He had a small bald spot that is growing back, now...

    Questionable droppings

I have noticed some questionable droppings in my run the last few days. I haven't seen who dropped them, and my poop board has looked fine. Attached is a bunch of photos. I have never dewormed them. All are under 1 year old.

    Choosing Cockeral

I have 3 cockerals. I will keep one or 2, but I know someone who may take one now. 2x 15 week rose comb brown leghorn 1x 13 week Welsummer The welsummer still acts unsure of himself, rarely ever crowes, and overall acts younger than his age. He seems timid and barely show any signs of trying...
