    HELP!! Sick Chickens

Yes. Gray eyes and limping are signs of Mareks disease. If you have it you can expect to loose 80-90% of the flock. If you are not able to keep your flock it’s important to not put them in with another persons flock - it’s highly contagious. Basically it’s a cull and start over scenario and you...

🥲 what eats a month old chick and only leaves legs?

I would be concerned too. Can you put a trail cam in the run? No feathers just the feet - inside an enclosed run. That is hard for me to reconcile- I’d lock the doors in case it’s a teen or something. All the animals I’d think of should have left evidence of entry.

    Crazy broody momma situation…

That’s the way my one is. She’s like super hen. Kind of both annoying and admirable.

    Crazy broody momma situation…

Yeah- The part I feel the worst about is like three chicks died apparently when the moms were fighting. I’m not letting two brooding mommas in the same area again.

    Crazy broody momma situation…

I had a broody chicken start sitting on eggs about 6 weeks ago. It was in the coop so I didn’t notice it until she was on it for a while so I thought I’d let her hatch them. Then about a week later another hen went broody along side the first. We eat our extra chicks we raise so I figured no big...

Bresse farms miss leading sales tactics…

Thanks for the info. I got some awesome results mixing up the different lines I got from Justin. Now that I know they came from true stock I will breed to clean them up. I was especially getting some feathers on the feet and yellow legs but some with correct legs too. I’ll work on it as a...

    HELP!! Sick Chickens

Good. When I hear lameness and quick death it reminds me of when I got Mareks. Glad it sounds like it’s not that.

    Greenhouse rebuild

I bought a quick tent greenhouse from Amazon. $250 for the plastic and frame. I added a landscaping tye foundation, extra supports and eye hooks and rope over it to hold it down in the wind. I’m on year two and it’s working great. Built in screen windows and doors on the plastic.

    Chickens for brush clearing

Goats are definitely the way to go. If for some reason they don’t agree with you buy a good weed eater, chain saw, long sleeves and use up that vacation time. Goats are awesome at clearing. And produce adorable and hilarious babies.

When do I switch to layer feed?

I use layer feed for my chickens with roosters and haven’t had issues. We also give them most of our table scraps so that boosts the feeds nutrition content (plus garden scraps and free range when we’re home).

Update… I got 13 chicks in the mail and they look promising. They look accurate to breed type and all were healthy. Will update on quality as they grow.
