I seem to have noticed the same thing, I see my birds drink from the bucket With a heater occasionally, but when I fill the frozen waterer in the morning, they all run to it like they were bout to die... Silly birds
I have 2 austrolorps and their eyeballs are straight black. My 2 sex links look similar, but have red and black eyes , like yours. The sex links also have the red feathers under black on their neck, like yours.
One last thing, I see some variation in the doors for your coop design. If I were building , I would opt for a larger door. Almost the entire front of my coop opens, and it has been really handy for cleaning and other tasks.
Here are my nesting boxes, the floor is set on an angle (14 degrees) so the eggs roll into a separate area for easy collection. Maybe you’ve had a different experience, but I had problems with hens pooping on the eggs. The new boxes have stopped that completely. Also keeps eggs away from hens...
That looks a lot like mine. I don’t have a plan for it though. I’d be happy to get the measurements and such. I built it on a budget, used a lot of odds and ends, other than the pieces of siding. I took the time to make rollaway nest boxes and it was definitely worth it! If your considering...
Thanks, my EE quit laying righr around winter solstice, Im sure she will get going again. Im in NW where days are very short now. I feel lucky some of my other birds are still laying regularly. This is the first winter for all my birds.
Thanks everybody, maybe Ill cut back a bit on treats. I don't suspect that my birds are forgoing their food because of treats, but I was often opening the coop door early, and throwing some scratch down as a habit. It makes sense to me to stop that and let them fill up on their layer feed. My...
Hey all, thanks for helping with my flock. The girls REALLY appreciate it! My lone EE has stopped laying. Its been at least a 10 days. Is it okay for her to eat the 16% feed? She's a tough bird, but I thought I had heard chatter about the high protein being bad for non layers.
Also, I mix...
Thanks, and yes, of course they would make a liar out of me....Chicken drama😜! I had one roost lengthwise in the coop that is 54 inches. I added the “T” part that is about 30 inches.
I originally planned on 6 birds in this coop, but here we are. Maybe a bit tight for 7.
Y’all are amazing! Problem solved. All the ladies are tucked in for the night. I saw some interesting stuff tonite, the two black sex links are pretty aggressive when settling in. Seemed like they picked on both ambers and the Easter egger. The austrolorps grabbed the corner spot early, and...
I did a few checks today. The bird in question is physically in good shape as far as I can tell. I threw some tasty treats in a tight pattern and watched as both of the amber whites were quick to get their share. Definitely not being picked on or bullied. I tried the same thing later in the...
