Just took a closer look at one of the drakes and I noticed a lot of new pin feathers coming in underneath the down. I found this strange as they cannot be moulting at 9 weeks old as you said. They were hatched quite late on so this might have something to do with it?
I have two drakes (both 9 weeks old) and I have noticed that they are dropping a lot of chest feathers over the past day or so. They have no green on their head so I suspected that they were just moulting into their adult breeding plumage as the female that hatched with them isn’t moulting at...
On the feed bag for the baby chick crumbs it says that: For waterfowl, goose/duck starter pellets OR baby chick crumbs can be fed up to 3/4, when birds should be gradually changed on to goose/duck finisher pellets.
I admit that I was a week late between switching them over to grower feed, but...
Ok thank you, they look healthy and their legs are strong, I'll watch out for any signs of illness. I will add brewer's yeast to their feed if they look unwell.
I have not supplemented as the chick feed says it is suitable for waterfowl too, so I presumed that it would supply the right amount of niacin/other minerals for the ducklings without the need of niacin supplements.
I have 3 5 1/2 week old ducklings and I was wondering what the ideal protein level is for their age and if I need to lower the protein percentage. From day 1 to now they have been on Small Holder Range baby chick crumbs (17.5% protein), and now I am transitioning them onto Heygates duck and...
thank you very much for your feedback, I will completely quarantine her away from the other chickens to stop any spreading.
this was an image from this morning. It has seemed to have got worse.
I recently got three new pullets, one of which is a Maran. Today I noticed that one of her eyes had been "stretched" where there was a big gap in her eye socket. There was no bleeding just some inflamed skin around the eye. I checked back about half an hour later and it had some clear bubbles in...
My blue Swedish drake is about 8 weeks old and recently I have noticed some drooping in the right wing. All of the pin feathers are growing through on both wings but only the right wing is drooping. I originally thought that angel wing was the problem but I have heard that the blood in the pin...
Your hen might have sprained her leg. I would keep her away from the other chickens and give her fresh food and water. Normally injuries like this heal if there are no signs of bumble foot. She should make a full recovery over the next few weeks.
One of my khaki Campbells has appeared to have a cloudy eye. I first noticed it shut and thought that she may have something stuck in it. I caught her and noticed that her eye appeared cloudy and almost blue. I've heard that she may have cataract eye but the cloudiness covers the whole of her...
