    Roosters!!! I only wanted ONE

Yes that makes sense. I was wondering if the male hormones give their meat a different flavor like larger game.

    Roosters!!! I only wanted ONE

Thank you! Yes my boys are 10 and 8 and usually are equipped with some form of protection. The aggression seems to be spotty, similar to teenage boys :D. We are making arrangements to cull them this weekend.

    Roosters!!! I only wanted ONE

Thank you for your advise! Fortunately I have a close friend who is willing to assist me with the processing. I agree about not knowing where they will go, and I am eager for my children to see the whole process and understand "farm life", if you will, and seeing the whole cycle of our foods life.

    Roosters!!! I only wanted ONE

What do you do with unwanted roosters? Should I rid of all of my Flock 1 cockerels and choose which one I want from Flock 2? Marans are supposed to be dual purpose birds. At what age can I process? And is there a difference in meat between hen/roo? Without going into too much information, I...

Chick Integration 9 week old with 2 week old

I seem to get the most helpful information in this community and with the internet having SSOOOOO much to read I would like to know what procedures are the best to integrate my birds. I have 4, 9 week old Marans, of which 2 I am suspecting to be roos . I started off with 13 in my first flock but...

Devastated... Lost 7 of 13 chicks last night.

"Pet Chickens & Ducks, post: 22575207, member: 487439"] Thank you! I am currently on a waitlist to receive more chicks, however I am starting to question weather I will accept them. I do think I should focus on what I have. I am suspecting two cockerels. Which would leave me with three, four if...

I have heard many times of the "wearing the dead chicked". Interesting idea but it makes sense and everyone who has spoken of it swears it works!

Thank you! We have built our run within the fenced off goat area. The run will be fully enclosed 8' x 20' in a lean to fashion 8' height with a drop down to 6'. I do not know what to think about the dog trying to get into the enclosure, because as I have stated this is our and her first go...

Yes we have continued to work with the dog but I do not trust her alone with them at all. I has been quite the job to make sure the dog and chicks are separated and confined correctly. When the chicks are outdoors the dog is indoors and vice versa. Cant wait until it all calms down.
