Are you guys using regular old zip ties from a box store like Harbor Freight or Home Depot? Or are there special bands. I know there are cheap zip ties that break easily. Thats probably good and bad on a chicken. You dont want them to get caught on something and unable to get free.

I was about to leave to go buy 4 more for a total of 10. Really positive I should only go with 4sqft per bird? Final answer?
That would give me 7.5 birds. Lol. Call it 8. Is that really what you guys recommend?
I hope they are far enough away to not poop in the nesting boxes. I mentioned that they were about 20" from the wall. We will see. I could add covering or move them if that happens.
Hey Guys,
I just built this coop and I am wondering if you think Bielefelder chickens will like it. The roosts are about 36" from the floor. Egg boxes are 12" wide x 13" deep and about 18" tall.
I read that they need adequate floor space to fly down to off the roosts. My coop is 6' x 6' not...
Hey guys. I read half this thread and I was sold. I was going to go with hemp for my new coop but decided on this stuff. Super hard to find! I live in Ithaca NY and I had to drive 100 miles to get some. I bought two bales at a Tractor Supply in Victor NY. It was all they had. So then I drove to...
I plan on free ranging them as much as possible. I have 20 acres but I live close to the road. I am hoping they are smart enough not to go to the road.
My coop is 6' x 6'. With a 1' egg box. So call it 6 x 5. That is 30 Sq ft. Divide that by 3 for 3 sqft per bird that is 10 birds. I assume you are saying I should have more than 3 per bird? I have read a ton of people say that 3 per bird is good.
What does winter have to do with it? I dont want...
Hello everyone,
I’m just starting out but I am already adding to my flock. I have Bielefelders that I bought from a breeder. I bought 2 adult layers and 4 baby chicks. I bought the adults so I can have eggs now while the babies grow.
because I have to wait so long for them to start giving us...
bummer!! Do you have a link to the stuff you bought? Amazon seems to have a few options. Id like to find the best price though because it’s such expensive stuff.
Hello,
I have a bale of decorative straw left over from last Halloween. The surface of it, where the bag was opened, looks like it has some mold on it from being outside.
I know mold spores are not good to have with your chickens but I’m wondering if you think it safe to pull off the top...
Hello everyone,
I am new to chickens and I’ve heard hemp bedding is awesome. I need bedding ASAP and I can’t find any at my local stores in central New York. Anybody have an idea where I can buy this locally or do I have to buy it online?
I found this on Amazon. It’s expensive though...
