I believe the rooster started the egg eating along with a hen or two. Once we confined them, everyone started. I can't remember the exact measurements, but I remember when my husband made it, we had more birds then and we made sure they each had the suggested square foot per bird. We feed...
Thanks for the suggestions. I have to climb up a small slope to get to our coop and I'm pregnant, so it makes it hard to go out there every hour. I'm pretty sure as soon as the eggs are laid, they turn around and eat them. I try to run out there any time I hear the egg song though.
We've been getting burned out with our flock. We have 18 total (5 ducks, 1 drake, 1 rooster 11 hens) They are ALL eating the eggs. They get plenty to eat and drink and have enough supplements. The only thing we can contribute egg eating to is them being bored once we built a pen for them instead...
He was attacking our children while free ranging, so we kept him in the area of our coop that can be locked up with the two drakes we were rehoming. As soon as we got a fence up for them to be in, he was with everyone else.
I'm not sure how he would have gotten so bruised. It almost seems like his toes are dying or something. Before I started him on cephalexin, his foot was blown right up.
He was "quarantining" with two drakes for about a week in the bottom part of our coop. Nothing under there that would do it. It was after his time under there that I noticed his foot. We had him under there to keep him from attacking our children. The only thing I can think of is we trimmed his...
Per the Bumblefoot surgery instructions, I cut into his foot to pull out the infection. I don't know if I didn't go deep enough, but I didn't see anything that looked like an infection, even though the pad of the foot is very swollen and warm. Patched him up. What do I do now? I feel so bad :(
Our rooster started limping at the end of last week. I noticed his entire foot was swollen and his toes were darkening. I started him on cephalexin and saw some improvement. However, he is still limping and has not made any further improvement. I started to wonder if it was bumble foot. It...
It's a wooden door on a homemade coop. My husband usually puts the chickens in at night- they have an enclosed but not night time secure pen. He said he really tries to watch out for their feet because he's noticed sometimes they just like to stand there when he's trying to close it. There are...
