Good article and comments! My girls enjoy just about everything, and come running when they see me. They especially love grasshoppers and fight over them. They don't recognize 'walking stick' insects as food though which i find interesting. And they'll eat on a half of a giant old cucumber...
He may have dementia. People with dementia will get on a tear about something and not let it go, for months. (Early stages). Do you know if he has relatives? They may not know he's starting to act irrational. If the law is on your side and from what you've said, it is, don't lose sleep over...
I was taking water to them 3 times a day, it kept freezing, even with their body heat. Thankfully this past week was a lot more normal altho it hit 80 one day. Crazy weather!
With the extreme cold in Texas, my girls were locked in their coop from Feb 14th through Feb 19th. (They wouldn't come out anyway once it got down to 13 degrees with a stiff north wind). So now I'm only getting 2 eggs a day from 9 pullets, for the past 10 + days. (2 were already not laying)...
Well i feel better about my poor girls, it's been in the mid 20s here for several days (in north Texas, this is 35 degrees below normal) and Monday the low is going to be single digits. Coop is small, used to be well insulated before they tore most of it out, but they don't seem to mind...
The issue is the chickens are afraid of them and won't eat.
Obviously i don't want to hurt the bees either. So giving them what they need ( higher protein too) makes sense They're coming 300+ feet across the pasture to find the chicken feed, so I'm going to put the pollen a lot closer to their...
Ok, i found a beekeeper and asked her- she said they are attracted to the protein. So i ordered some high protein pollen substitute, wil put that out and see if they like it better.
Does anyone know why bees would be interested in layer crumbles? They're swarming around the feeders and my chickens won't eat when they're there. I put some out in their yard and the bees found it within seconds. I am going to put this question on a bee keeper forum also- what can i put out...
Mine cuss at me every day because they think i should let them out earlier. (been locking them in their coop, had a predator find a small gap in their enclosure and even though we fixed it and killed the predator, still a bit paranoid). It makes me laugh, all the different sounds they make...
