Laying hen and multiple 14 week olds

Hi. I haven’t put my chickens together officially because they eat different feed. For those that have put yours together how did you deal with that? I don’t want the younger ones getting sick because they ate too much protein.

    Chicks and Chickens Separated

We sadly are only down to one laying hen so we decided to try again with more baby chicks. Would you suggest to still keep them (the laying hen and chicks) separate once it’s time for the chicks to come out?

Chicken died, purple wattle and vomit (warning dead chicken pic included)

I am so very sad to see that my chicken I raised from a chick was dead under the coop. She was sprawled on the ground with a purple comb and vomit (at least we think that’s what it was) coming out of her mouth.. it looked like egg but didn’t smell to our knowledge. Also, we found a broken egg in...

    Chicken eye sealed shut

Last night we noticed one of our hens on top of the coop with her head in her back feathers. She wouldn’t move and we noticed her eye was sealed shut. We immediately put her in a dog kennel with Ropa Poultry water and put a respiratory salve under her wings and on her wattle. We also used...

    Egg song troubles.

Thank you! I do love the idea of giving them greens as a distraction 💖.

    Egg song troubles.

I have five girls and the egg song is heard 15x’s a day. They sing it in the morning, during lay, after lay and just because. Is that normal? It’s a little annoying because they are very, very loud. I can hear them at the furthest end of the house. I know it’s probably annoying the neighbors...

Days of eggs left outside, help!

Hello, we left out of town for three days. We asked our neighbor to collect eggs and we came back to find out he didn’t. It’s been in the 90’s (we are in AZ) here so idk even know if it would be safe to eat them. What would you do? Thanks.

It’s hot, electrolytes for how long?

I live in Arizona and we’ve been trying to keep our chickens cool with tarps, misters and now electrolytes. I read that you are not supposed to give them electrolytes long term due to the salt. What else should I give them to help them out? They seem to really like the electrolyte though.

Does anyone have plans for coop/tractor?

I cannot find videos, plans or any info on it but I would love to make it myself. My pet chicken no longer has it on their website either. Do you have plans or have you made it and can help a fellow chickener out?

    What if...

I have an omlet go up coop that should fit 4 chickens, but I bought 5 chicks because everything I read said to buy an extra one just an case one didn’t make it. Would it be okay to leave the door open on the coop and just have roosting bars just in case they don’t all fit when they get older? My...

Heat lamp? 4 weeks Barred Rocks

My chickadees are starting to have head feathers poke thru at 4 weeks. Tonight I turned on my cozy coop heater per usual and they were as far away from the heat as possible and it’s on low. We get in the 50’s in the night. Should I leave the heat on anyways? Can they go outside permanently now...

Is pomegranate leaves safe for chicks?

I have a pomegranate tree and some leaves fell on the ground... wondering if they will be okay? I know tomato leaves are toxic but they can eat the fruit sometimes. If the leaves are okay, I would like to give it to them regularly. They can’t free range due to predators.

    How old are my chicks?

I got my chicks from tractor supply the day they came in (I was calling everyday to see if they had a shipment). I know Barred Rocks grow more quickly, but I don’t want to put them outside full time and risk it being too soon. We have had weather outside in the 90’s in Arizona during the day and...
