    Mixing feed?

Hello all! I’m pretty sure this is an odd question but would it be a problem to mix feeds together when feeding my girls? They don’t like pellets for whatever reason so they’ve been on crumbles exclusively. But I recently found a whole grain organic feed (Scratch and Peck Organic Layer feed...

    Extending run on hill help

I’m in need of some help. I have an 8x4 run that I’d like to expand the run to be 8x8 and the only way I can do it is by expanding to the right (when facing the run) my problem is that there is a hill right where I want to expand. I tried carving out part of the hill but there is a tree right...

    New chicken apartment

Well it’s basically all done. Just need to complete the new pvc feeder and waterer tomorrow (using their old ones for now) but they have officially moved out today. I still feel bad kicking them out. I always feel like they’re going to be cold. But they’re about 8 weeks old now so it’s time...

I thought about that but I’d have to reach underneath them to get/look for eggs.

Roost and poop board placement help please

The chicken door opens from the outside and it slides sideways. The window does the same thing. Opens from the inside and slides sideways. I am able to fully stand inside the coop (I’m fairly short 5’4”) i was thinking’s about making the boards 2 feet off the ground and making the roosts about...

Roost and poop board placement help please

They don’t have any yet. They’re still living in their brooder condo until I can get their coop situated. I’m looking for placement for the roosts and boards in there

Roost and poop board placement help please

That’s very helpful. Thank you. How much roosting room do they need? I originally thought about stretching the roost and board along the length of the coop to give them enough room. Or even making an L shape roost so they can be comfortable. (I had thought about making the L shape on the...

Roost and poop board placement help please

Hello all! So I’ve most likely been overthinking the roost and poop board placement in my coop so I had to give up yesterday. Going to try again today but I wanted to seek some advice from you all. So my coop is 4x6 (I have 5 girls) and I just put the nesting boxes in at 15” off the ground on...

Here goes nothing. New coop from hubby’s brain

Thank you so much. We are unable to let them free range where we live due to other people’s pets in the area that cannot be trusted. I was worried that the run might be a little small for 5 but that was all we were able to build within budget right now. Maybe we can extend it later on when we...

Here goes nothing. New coop from hubby’s brain

Here’s the start of our new coop. My husband basically built this using only plans in his brain. (He’s a contractor so I wasn’t worried about anything) I told him what I wanted and where and we started last weekend. We haven’t been able to work on it today due to the weather but if it doesn’t...

Shed style coop...on the ground or elevated?

Ours is most likely going to be built on top of grass. Everything is pretty level already. The ideal place is like to put it is too much of a hill and there is no protection. I should also have added in my original post that we live in South Central Montana. So we get fairly hot summers and some...

Shed style coop...on the ground or elevated?

My husband and I will be building our chicken coop this weekend for our 5 week old flock of 5. We will be building a walk in, shed style slant roof coop with an attached run. Similar to the picture below. My question is should a coop this style be elevated with cinder blocks or built on the...

Anyone purchased a used coop? Pros and cons?

That’s good to know. I didn’t want a smaller coop either for that reason. I wanted to be able to walk into it. It was a custom made coop built just for the chickens. He said they moved and no longer had chickens. Which, I don’t know why, but it was kinda weird for me. I mean anyone can say...

Anyone purchased a used coop? Pros and cons?

I do have the ability to move it and it seems pretty solid. But it’s the diseases and stuff that I worry about. No sense in buying a coop if it’s going to kill my girls. Then I won’t have any to put in there. Thanks everyone. Looks like I gotta get going on the build 😆

Anyone purchased a used coop? Pros and cons?

Thank you. I just wasn’t sure if I should be worried about any of the poop or whatever left over in the coop. I mean obviously I would clean it as best I could but I didn’t know if anything lingering could affect my girls.
