    Cause for Concern?

When I was just beginning my venture, I looked for ways to cool my flock. A simple search of "How to cool chickens in summertime " should result in several threads. I started here. It stated that the water in freezing veggies and fruits keeps birds from dehydration. Will switch to greens...

    Cause for Concern?

Hello! So, in my reading I have found that frozen fruits and vegetables are recommended for this heat. I will definitely look into this more! Thanks.

Silkie sudden death - no apparent cause

So sorry for the loss and subsequent confusion. I'm finding, for similar reasons, that there are quite a few things that can mysteriously take our feathered friends, no matter how much we care for them.

    Cause for Concern?

Thanks for your help! I'll definitely be more mindful in this weather. I've been doing frozen pulsed broccoli, frozen peas, and frozen grapes, melon. The coop is ventilated and the entire enclosure remains completely shaded in the summer. Thinking of a soaker hose across the top for a quick...

    Cause for Concern?

I've had 2 of my girls meet their demise quite mysteriously this summer. After the first, (a fluke?) I just read up on the myriad of ways there was no telling what exactly killed her. I don't have the cash or availability of any place for a necropsy. Yesterday, another 3 yr old in my shrinking...

    TOO SOON??

I greatly appreciate your responses and the time you took to supply wisdom. I have added playscapes (stuff) to the run and pulled out the more aggressive red. The pullets are mingling better for the most part! You nesters are the best!! Thank you 😊

    TOO SOON??

Morning layers and like minded!! What's the scramble? I have a little group of three, 2 RIR, and a Barred Rock (BR). Yesterday I introduced my 2 new 9 week old BR into the group and one RIR has decided that was definitely uncool!! She's taken to aggressively bullying the youngins and they spent...

    WHAT THE FLOCK???

UPDATE: NEW & IMPROVED (hopefully) Roosts are raised and with luck nature will take its course and soon I'll reopen the nesting boxes with washable pads and fake eggs... lol!! I'm pretty certain that homesteaders of old didn't go through such hoops for their girls!!! Lolol

    WHAT THE FLOCK???

Absolutely, and will modify ASAP. Do you suggest blocking the boxes until modifications are completed?? Should take a week.

    WHAT THE FLOCK???

I have sewn my share of Halloween costumes over the years so I know my way around the machine (with my hammer close by 😂). I see just what your describing, I think. I'll get on it next week!! I'm having a great time with my 3!! Can't wait for that first egg!!!
