He's still in recovery mode but seems to be at about 75%. I'm letting him sleep in the freshly cleaned coop tonight with his girls. I like the idea pf natural wormers. Nephi at the feed store says that the old school Mormon farmers around here use the local wild plant Mormon Tea or Ephedra...
It might also be worth mentioning that while I have great respect for Veterinary doctors, the closest one to where I live is 2 hours and fifteen minutes away and he is mostly a large animal doc, so I do often have to rely on advice,my wits and folk wisdom.
He seems to be in a recovering mode and I'm Very Happy about it- He's a funny and sweet rooster- the first one I ever had and he and I just seem to have really good karma- He's quite huge and yet he lets me pick him up and always wants to be fed from my hand. I so appreciate the support and help...
He is resting again in my living room in a basket. He hasn't been interested in food but just now I mixed up some plain yogurt and wet cat food and he went for it. I am starting t think that he's going to make it. I keep telling him I need him to help me with all those pretty hens out there...
Well, Foggy is still hanging on- He stood up and gave a pretty good crow this morning from his basket. He is still very weak but definietly better. My brother just left for the feed store in escalante to get antibiotics, mite dust and worm medicine. Thanks again for the support last night- I...
Well, Foghorn is still hanging in there and I'm going to go to bed. I'm keeping him in the house tonight. Thanks to all for your concern and compassion- he's a well loved rooster for sure. I'll let you know what happens...
he does seem to be feverish- his head is turned all the way to the left. I feel terrible about this but I've never wormed my chickens- I guess i didn't know that I had to. It makes sense... so sad. there's no vet within a few hours of where i live. I thought he would die this afternoon and...
He lives in a big fenced in yard with three coops and about 60 hens- I don't think he could have encountered poison but i wonder about botulism? It's SAD! he's a sweet guy- lets me pick him up...
after I gave him the oil he pooped out a clearish puddle with a white center. i massaged his crop and it's not impacted- he does have mites (I saw them on his skin as I was taking care of him- yuck, poor guy.)
He is a six year old RIR and seems to be experiencing paralysis. He will stand if I help him up but can't walk without falling or flailing. He is a wonderful bird and I would appreciate any advice that could help him. I forced him to take some fishoil, avian charge and activated charcoal. I...
