Chicken behaviour differences between free range and non free range chickens

I just got a new rooster who had previously lived in a coop and run system with no free ranging at all. He was very healthy however, shiny coat and not underweight much. But when I got him home i was both shocked and saddened by his reactions to all the new things! He didn't recognise the...

    Abandoned rooster breeds

Oh? I'm glad to hear he doesn't hurt them. I was worried whether introducing a bantam rooster to a flock would be okay. The sized difference i mean when mating, having to latch onto the girls wattle because he's small. Does your bantam mate with your girls yet?

However I read somewhere...

Why are my chickens so quiet?

I have 2 mature hyline chooks who, for as long as I have owned them, have been quieter then any chickens I've ever owned. The noisiest they are is when they are waiting for me to let them out in the morning to free range. They don't 'cluck' or seeming talk to each other at all. They are happy...

    Abandoned Mystery Rooster

Hello, last week somebody dumped this sweet boy at my farm in Tasmania, making him my first chicken.. could anyone give me an idea as to the age and breed? I'm leaning toward Australorp but his leg colour doesn't match? It's tricky to tell as he has quite bad scaly leg which I'm in the process...
