    What gender do you think

A lady near where I live, in saddleworth, sold me some fertile eggs a barnyard mix from a mixed flock. I think the cockerel (father) is a Brahma.

Integrating chicks into flock at 4 weeks old.

So glad I found this thread. Was just about to build an adjoining run so that I could get my chicks used to being outside and near the adult hens. Thankfully I stumbled into this discussion. What a game changer! Put the chicks inside the main run in the cage we’d been using in the spare room...

I noticed you said a while ago in a post that you use bokashi. I wondered if you could tell me a bit more about it, there seems to be a lot of mixed opinions on here, but I have heard lots of good things about it, particularly for composting, but wondered how it works with hens.

    swelling around eye

There is nothing in the eye. No bubbles, no discharge. It’s just the red puffiness around it concerning me. She’s not bothered other than the itching. She’s eating/drinking fine and full of beans. She’s just done so well with recovery I don’t want to miss something small that sets her back.

    swelling around eye

One of my chicks was attacked badly by broody when hatched (skin stripped off the whole side of head to her eye, originally thought she had lost it), she has recovered brilliantly and looks to have minimal scarring and the feathers are coming in nicely. However she started scratching around her...

    Help poorly chick

I’ve been cleaning with saline and coating with honey. When the scab has been cracking and she’s been shaking her head/scratching excessively at the scab I’ve applied some arnica cream, but only when the scab is covering the wound. It’s healing really well. It was very deep and large covering...

    Help poorly chick

Hi again, hoping for a bit of advice this hatch has been a baptism of fire, especially considering its my first one. Had hoped my broody would have taken care of everything for me, but although she liked sitting on the eggs, she wasn't so keen on chicks and scalped the first one and attacked the...

    Help poorly chick

Thank you, and I will, been trying today, but everything locally (small village) closed or out of stock and everything online needed a prescription. :-( Don't want to be in the same position again!

    Help poorly chick

You’re You’re right I’m in the UK. Spent the afternoon trying to get the treatments people suggested. It’s Saturday so all the agricultural/feed stores closed at 12pm. Had just spoken with the vet less than an hour ago :-(

    Help poorly chick

Ah so sad. She seemed to be doing better. Began popping out for food but then her legs went from under her and she started gasping and died within minutes. I just hope it wasn’t something contagious that the rest could have been exposed to. Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice.

    Help poorly chick

The chicks are a barnyard mix, but this one looks to be full Brahma. 3 weeks old. They’ve been outside 3 times, but spaced out over the last week or so as the weather has been rubbish. I put this one out with the rest yesterday but you could tell she wasn’t right as she didn’t want to get...

    Help poorly chick

I’m stumped too. The chicks are in a large caged run and brooder box in the back room. No other pets. No contact with the other hens. There was no blood till this morning and it was still wet when I got up so must’ve happened recently. The only thing in the box with the chick is the electric...
