One of my chicks was attacked badly by broody when hatched (skin stripped off the whole side of head to her eye, originally thought she had lost it), she has recovered brilliantly and looks to have minimal scarring and the feathers are coming in nicely. However she started scratching around her eye just as the last of the scab came off (I suppose it was itchy as it healed) and it looks sore. Have been washing it out with eye wash and spraying with vetricyn for a few days now, but it doesn't seem to be improving, possibly the lower swelling has reduced slightly, think it spread under her eye a bit more. The eye and lid don't seem to be affected, just the surrounding tissue. The redness comes and goes, but the swelling is constant. The two pictures are seconds apart (the first is just as I picked her up, and the second (eye shutting) is when she realised we were about to mess with her eye again.) The swelling is soft, possibly liquid filled? Any suggestions?

Does she seem to be able to see well in that affected eye? I can’t see from the poor light, what is in the eye. Does she have bubbles or foam or any gooey drainage? The eye may never be normal from the injury, so I might be necessary to use eye drops or ointment on a regular basis if the eye looks irritated, or has drainage. The tear duct or the nictitating membrane might be damaged, and either one could cause problems. I don’t have any expertise with that type of injury.

There is nothing in the eye. No bubbles, no discharge. It’s just the red puffiness around it concerning me. She’s not bothered other than the itching. She’s eating/drinking fine and full of beans. She’s just done so well with recovery I don’t want to miss something small that sets her back.
